Well topic title. I'm considering to purchase Starcraft II, it seems like my kind of RTS however I am quite terrible at RTS'. I always seem to get destroyed if I have less than 10 minutes of preparation before someones decides to rush my base.

Im the same, but I think its worth it for the single player alone. The game is brimming with quality and the campaign was great and longer than most games nowadays. Then there are the single player challenges and Vs AI mode to keep you going.

I'm thinking the same man, I suck at RTS games, me and my buds used to have lan parties on red alert 1 and battle for middle earth 2 and I was so bad. Starcraft 2 looks really attractive though.
Sure. The campaign is great fun and has a pretty interesting and well told storyline, with great characters and voice acting.
You can also play skirmish matches against the game's AI (which has various difficulty and handicap settings) and play the challenge mode that is designed to help improve your skills.
It also has plenty of achievements for completionists.
Yes the campaign is very well done with alot of mission variety and the production values are top notch and overall is very polished which is pretty rare for a pc game. For mp blizzard included a practice league for people like you non-ranked 50 matches where you play the game at lower speed then normal and the maps deter rushing as there 2 giant rocks with 2000hp that must be destroyed first although you can still be reaper rushed as they can jump over cliffs. A good way for you learn the basics off the game's online and not get completely steam rolled in 5 minutes. And once those are done there are 5 placement matches that determine your league. If you get placed to high and lose alot you will get demoted down to a lower league with people who are of similar skill level. This way your not stuck playing uber pros and getting wrecked in ten minutes. This combined with the sheer influx of new players makes sc2 a great place to for a rts noob to start learning. And of course there's custom games which can provides tons of hours of fun in a non competitive manner so great for the casual player. The sc2 editor lets people make all sorts of games that can be completely different from sc2 Theres Tower defense games, I've played a side scrolling beat em up like streets of rage and its even possible to make a thirdperson shooter using the editor so given a bit and the amount, variety an quality of these custom games will be amazing.
SC2 is worth it especially if youre a noob at RTSs haha.
I am still workin my way through the campaign, but they made online very easy to get into with ranked matches, "noob" rankings, etc
If you weren't good at previous RTS titles, you most certainly won't make it anywhere online in Starcraft 2.
It doesn't matter too much how good you are if you have fun playing it. If you are still on the fence though, personally, I'd wait for a price drop.guynamedbillyIt's a Blizzard game, and not WoW, the price won't go down much in the next 2-5 years, just look at the recommended price for Diablo 2/LoD/War3/TFT ;). Anyway, yes, because of matchmaking it's good for a "terrible" RTS player, I didn't spend much into the full version I only did a few campaign missions and two online matches, but in the beta because I was pretty bad :P I played against new players at first, completely new, I won without problems, and because I was wining I played against better and better opponents till I started to get owned bad :P but if you practice you'll get good.

Well I was decent in The Battle for Middle-Earth 2, but everything else I've been terribad in

It is as simple as this (to a degree)
The more you play it the more you will learn about each aspect. The more you learn about each aspect, the better overall you will get (in time) if you apply what you are learning, to what you are doing!
This applies to getting better at ANYTHING. From making music, to playing video games, to racing a car, etc.
If you really enjoy it, (no matter how good you are at it) you will eventually become decent. Will is the determining factor if you will get better, but your own learning capabilities are the tools to help you get better at the game!
Yes, I was terrible at the game (online when I got it) now I can hold my own online, the game is setup to ease you in with 50 preset macthes to ease you into the experience, the game caters to casual and hardcore gamers alike, so go for it imo.Well topic title. Get it!!
I pretty much hate RTS games these days (beside Total War series, which isnt even a rts series really).
I enjoyed Dune2, Warcraft2, Age of Empires series, Red Alert1, Starcraft1 (though i didnt like it as much as the new one) and Company of Heroes, but I just havn't liked many RTS games in years for what ever reason.
But then the all mighty Starcraft2 came up....and man its epic even for RTS noobs like me and you.
There is a WICKED campaign that teachs you each unit and also COOP vs AI that you can do with friends! So you and 3 of your friends who are not very good either can go against AI on custom maps,etc.. its wicked!
Also once you get better there is a great editor and awesom versus mode. Even if you suck at versus its ok, because they made it so you take yout 4 ro 5 TEST matches and then it puts you in a gorup/league with people the same talent as you, so your not going against super good dudes all the time and getting pwned.
PICK IT UP! I realyl am blown away by it and I dont even like RTS games much!
There are also going to be TONS of user made mods that are new genres! Like racing games, RPGS, Third person Shooters,etc..
I would go with other and cheaper rts games first. Dawn of War Platinum pack .. Company of Heroes Gold pack Just to name a few.BDK-Soft
I already have company of heroes, I however had lots of issues with the patching witch made me unable to play online (Well I didn't bother solving it) as for DoW.. I hear there are no bases

DoW Platinum Pack is composed of DoW, Dark Crusade and Winter Assault, DoW 1 has base building.Loved the sp campaign in all 3 but that's pretty much it, I didn't really get nto the multiplayer, and it's pretty cheap don't know about NA if you're from there but in EU it's 10€ on Steam, great value.
Still SC 2 is awesome too, the campaign, the multiplayer, the editor, the custom game modes.

DoW 2 is fantastic, just because it's not the sequel you expected it doesn't automatically become a bad game, quality wise it's the best DoW Relic created.Well topic title. I'm terrible at RTS to the point that I haven't even tried playing one in many many years. But SC2 is the first RTS I've gone bought, hell, the first computer game I've bought in decades.
So far the game is real good and the single player campaign nicely eases you in by introducing new units and ideas each round. You can also play against the computer in an online-like battle so you can learn how to play without the pressure of getting crushed by real people. Once you do feel comfortable enough to play online against another person, Battle.net has a pretty good matching system will give you a rank and keep you matched against people of a similar skill level.
So if you are interested in SC2, you should get it. Even if you are terrible like me.
[QUOTE="DanielDust"]DoW 2 is fantasticBDK-SoftIt's garbage. Why? let me guess no base building, and few units (that overall cause more mayhem than a huge army in DoW 1), pathetic reasons to hate a game that isn't like you want it to be.
Yes its worth it. I am horrible at rts games. Up till now, my main rts experience has been Halo Wars. I am thoroughly enjoying SC2 even if it is challenging to me. It does a excellent job of easing you into the gameplay, which is not difficult at all...the difficulty is in your brain and how to use strategy. Lol, i am barely able to get through the challenge modes much less the actual campaign and playing someone online is something i can forget about for now. But i do think this is one impressive game that i will stick with for quite a long time to come.
