Well "3rd Gen Core cpu" doesn't really say anything. i3? i5? i7? dual-core? quad-core? Either way, I doubt it would matter. WoW isn't exactly a resource hog, and it's like 8 years old. I'd be surprised if you can even buy a computer these days that would have any trouble running it maxed out, at any resolution.
Yeah, I guess it would make sense that the graphics would advance at least a bit with the expansions. But still, a system with a 2gb graphics card, 8gb ram, and (i'm assuming) at least an i5 cpu wouldn't max it out? Is it THAT advanced?
I have:
-amd quadcore, 3.2 ghz
-560 ti
-4 gb RAM
And I can kick wow in its fat face. I dont think you would have a problem running the game on ultra. The 8 gb of RAM is more than enough and the GPU should do some work as well. I have no idea about the CPU, but if a quad core amd can run it I would be shocked if an intel processor couldn't.
Crap, just realized that the resolution is painfully small. Yeah man, at that resolution the game will run on the absolute highest setting except for like...16x aa.
It could certainly run it but I can't tell you how smooth it would be...
The shadows are usually what sap the life out my peformance. I find if I just turn those off it improves the frame rate dramatically. And WoW is the type of game that can easily be played without missing shadows.
At that low resolution you should be fine.
Just turn everything to minimum anyway - you'll get more dps.
The 560 Ti is apparently a much more powerful card than the 650M though.I have:

Did you mean to say FPS? Or did you actually mean Damage Per Second?
The 560 Ti is apparently a much more powerful card than the 650M though. do you have your head shoved up blizzard's so much that you're trying to pass WoW as a demanding game? it's an MMO, being easy to run is one of the priorities. "i doubt it'll run on ultra" is the most ridiculous thing i've seen you say. those specs can max out far more demanding and visually impressive games. if anything, you're making WoW look like an unoptimized PoS.[QUOTE="jhalter1"]

I doubt it'll run at ultra. Yes WoW is 8 years old, but the graphics have changed a lot over the years.
-Unreal-
True they changed but they're still pretty lame looking and a piece of p!ss to run

He meant dps as in Derps per second. On Topic: You'd probably be better off using high/med settings. Don't expect high fps in crowded cities and don't set Shadows to Ultra.I would think that machine could. You could always test it yourself and just download the trial version at their site.
My friend has a laptop with similar specs (i7 3610QM, 6GB DDR3, and 650M) and he can run Battlefield 3 on it at medium settings @ 1366x768, so I would assume it can run WoW at max 1366x768 (ie: slightly above 720p)...
Though it really depends on what you are doing on WoW as well... I have an i5 2500k @ 4.2GHz, 8GB Cprsair Vengeance 1600, and a GTX680 and I max almost everything, but still get slowdowns... Including WoW (not entirely sure on this though as I got slowdowns on my GTX470 SLI setup which is similar in performance to a single 680, but have since unsubscribed since getting my 680)... I will have a 99% uptime, but there are still points where max setting (including max AF/AA) will slow you down when raiding and the likes, (loading hundreds of animations, 25 characters, a boss, all with highest level of line smoothing and texture bluring there is, etc) it can get choppy depending on the fight and the effects in the fight...
I know that with those specs and at that resolution you will at least be able to max it a majority of the time, including AF/AA, but in a raid if you do it, you may need to turn the AA/AF down... And play at a desk... A GPU like that will get extremely hot playing games, especially if you are pushing it and have it maxed out...

I love Blizzard. You're just going to have to deal with that.

lol such a dumb fanboy. WoW hasn't been relevant in a long time and has turned into crap the last few years. Only reason people still play is due to them having high characters from years ago and they don't want to let them go. Just cos it was ONCE the best doesn't mean it still IS the best. Just like CoD. Also GW2 comes out soon and it may surprise you how many people start playing that

you trying to pass WoW as a hardware demanding game would only serve to scare away potential new players. i don't see how lying to scare away newcomers could possibly help blizzard. Please Log In to post.
