I'm just looking for a good MMO, andI like final fantasy games, and I also liked the WoW demo i tried, but a few people I've asked just told me WoW isn't all that good.

For those who have played both which one is better ?

WoW has about 10 million people playing (or subscribed) FF developers made the game free until they fix all the problems it has Hint?

Read some reviews on websites and magazines. You'll find one clear winner not just between those two games, but between all the games of that genre.

Actually, don't do this because then he'll be thinking Age of Conan and Warhammer: Online are actually good games (;p). If you like WoW then play it. Its your decision to make and not every game is for everyone.

if you find smacking rabbits in slow mo for 40 levels, restricted XP gains, limited quests ( a few per day), framerates in the single digits, the worst UI ever created in human history, dialup patch speeds, and just plain grinding with no direction.....yea give it a shot.

yea, the combat is slow...take turns poking a rabbit with your spear......or do 2 quests and be told you hit yoru daily limit. BTW, the only quests you'll find are "kill 3 bugs" or "kill 5 mushrooms." Then if you play too much during the week, they lock your XP for a while

Hahahahahahha. You've reached your daily quest limit? You've played too much so here is your XP locked? What game is it, just for addicts so they recover? No wonder it failed....

The UI in FFXIV has gotten a little better since SE started to try and fix then game but ya overall it is pretty bad, FFXI will always be the better online FF and my favorite FF in the series. Other things that are horrible about FFXIV are the fact all the jobs are called something different, its FFXIII all over again, the names of towns, characters, and placesall sound chinese or just plain stupid, no auction house so I'm still wearing my starting gear, its hard to find items at times, it doesnt explain some stuff to you such as when you level you get these points for elemental stats which I still have no idea which ones to choose, and during leve quests the monsters by default attack in pairs of 2 and they can still link and they go out of their way to aggro. One time while fighting a bee cloud another ones aggros from around the corner and they cahse me non stop until I die.

TC creater in my opnion the best mmo to get into at the moment would be DC Universe but considering you like the fantasy setting you might want to try both if you can afford it. Since FFXIV is currently free until SE fixes it which I can't see for a good while you might as well pick up FFXIV since you will only be paying for the game. I know we have been talking crap about the game but maybe you will like it or find some joy I know Im making myself enjoy it since i spent $80 for the collectors edition lol. Then ofcoarse buy WOW which will not have all those problems but WOW can be kind of a boring grindfest. I know most MMO games are a grindfest in some way but my first MMO was FFXI so I was used to a deep story but wow does have some what of a story that picks up when you get to outland in the burning crusade expansion. If you play wow you will not have the crappy ui or all the quest limiting or other problems we mentioned in FFXIV. If you can't afford both then go ahead and buy wow. Iff you do get FFXIV make sure you pc is powerful enough to play it first.

Nah.... Try DC or fantasy LOTRO. Not worth giving the FF devs a single cent if they aren't capable of bringing out a decent product....

At first I thought you were exaggerating, and then I remembered the reviews I read of the game. :? TC, if you're looking for a good fantasy MMO, WoW or LOTRO would be your best choices, I think. LOTRO is free to download and play, but has a subscription option, so if you're on a budget you can get what essentially is an unlimited free trial of that game. :)

its a BADDDDDD game

wow by itself isnt so hot either.. buy the whole set or go home otherwise you jsut wont be doing yourself any justice.

id sooner recommend finding a 3rd game to bide your time till something better comes along.. such as say lotro or age of conan.. or champions online (goes f2p in like a week)

Whatever you do don't get Final fantasy...
Just get wow it just a game you have to try and experience for yourself. Other mmo's that I played and liked are age of conan and champions. Definetly try the free trail of both champions and age of conan.

simply put, WOW is a great game with it's ups and downs but generally fun and somewhat satisfying.....ffxiv is a steaming pile of s**t with redundant nonsense quests a pitiful attempt at a UI. It looks nice but that's about it. I would gladly pay for WOW than subject myself to ffiv for free.

It's really THAT bad. Wis3boi pretty much hit the nail on the head. My brother played it, I should say (he quit out of frustration and rage), and I watched him play it for a good length of time. Seriously, poking at little critters in an open field for levels on, and on... It's an MMO disaster. I'd rather play the worse F2P garbage MMO out there than play FF 14.

WoW is the most solid and well rounded MMO out there. It draws a lot of hate, but really, it's still the best MMO to play after all these years.

Final Fantasy XIV is by all accounts, utter garbage. I'm an enormous Final Fantasy fan (loved XI too), and if the launch window hadn't completely slipped my mind I would have been one exceptionally dissapointed fan.

The thing about WoW is that alot of people try to find an escape in new MMO's, they abandon WoW for a while, and then find themselves returning after only a few months away.

Granted, hopping MMO's becomes much more difficult when you find yourself in a guild you like. Personally, I've played SWG, EQ, EQII, FFXI, GW, LotRO, DDO, EVE, and of course, WoW. (I'm probably forgetting some).

The ones that have hit the spot for me were SWG, EQII, FFXI and WoW.

SWG is now dead, however, so I cannot recommend it.

EQII has had major changes since I've played, so I can't recommend that either.

FFXI was by far the most atmospheric and involving MMO before WoW for me, but it's a game where you HAVE to group to level and I cannot comment on the current state of the community. It was falling to pieces with the introduction of the console crowd when I left.

WoW is just as I've stated. It has a ton of content and as long as you take it slow and experience it rather than rush your way to 85, you might just fall in love with it.
