No, it starts out pretty fun, but soon enough you just play it because you're addicted. I got up to level 60 back when I played (Haven't played since November 2007) and it gets dreadfully boring but you play anyway because you're addicted. I had fun with it for a while but eventually you're going to slap yourself for playing it for so long, after realizing how repetitive it was.
There were times where I had to run the same instance (getting groups for an instance can be quite the process unless you're in a good guild) nearly 20 times to get a drop that I wanted. Trust me, in the end it's not worth it.
Sure, play the 2 week trial until it runs out, but don't go any further then that :)
I'd have to disagree with the whole price of game thing. With $55 you can grab Counter Strike, Orange Box and L4D. ( If you got them on sale or such..) (Just game examples) and you'll probably be playing those for a very long time... I played CS:S for over a year, and i've been playing L4D and Orange Box (specifically TF2) for 3 months now.. Wow is a good game but if you're going to compare it with prices to other games, you can get tons more out of other games.RedxSniper
Exactly, think about it. A year subscription to WoW is around $150 (actually more then that, but I rounded down). For this price, you could get 3 brand new games or around 10 solid games that you will never have to pay for again. An example could be Diablo 2, which has free mutliplayer and is an RPG. That's only 20 bucks and I've gotten a lot of time out of it. Would you rather pay 150 bucks for a load of games that you can always play later, or 150 bucks on a single, repetitive game? Not too hard of a choice.

You're comparing apples and oranges. WoW is nothing like a single player game, or even a MP game like Diablo. The entire dynamic of gameplay and experience is changed when it's an MMO. WoW has been improved and updated a lot since 2007 and level 60 end game. There's a lot more variety now on what to do when you hit level 80, and also a ton of content to choose from. And you can hardly compare it to MP FPS. What if he doesn't like FPS? That cancels every single game that was just mentioned out. I played WoW from beta until quitting about 4 months ago, and hardly ever got bored. If you are finding it repetitive or no longer fun, quit. No harm done. Not even trying it based on someone elses opinion of the game (the game 2 years ago, no less) is misguided. People need to make their own decisions, especially about MMOs, which are a different experience for every person.[QUOTE="MechanicalSpork"][QUOTE="RedxSniper"]I'd have to disagree with the whole price of game thing. I prefer having the choice of playing from a variety of genres and different game experiences. Not to mention, there's plenty of free WoW clones out there, such as the most recent Runes of Magic. A friend of mine has actually been playing that for a while and says its great. I just don't see why anybody would want to PAY for a game like WoW or Everquest when there's plenty of good freeware clones of them. Eve online or something along those lines I might reccomend, but for such a cookie cutter game I wouldn't reccomend it to anybody.
Edit: Also, as a former WoW player yourself, I'm suprised you didn't go more in depth as to why its not boring. You honestly didn't think running the same instances all the time was boring? You didn't think that doing the same basic quests was boring? How about the uneventful world pvp? There's not even a reward for PVP besides the Arena and Battlegrounds, the only point of World PVP is to piss other players off by griefing them. I can't remember if you got honor or not for PVP, but even if you did, it was a pretty insignificant amount. Oh, and obviously the OP likes FPS games if you looked at his owned games and profile picture, Logic-1 cru3-0
Wow is fun. Alot of fun. Leveling is a blast untill the higher levels when it becomes a grind. But at that point you are either hooked or vested enough to just want to finish the process.
Then you hit 80 and you see all these people with insane looking gear and you want to compete but find out the time vested to get that stuff is insane.
But now you are hooked it creeps into your life, you play way to late, miss school forget about going out. You are just another Wow junkie. Then if you get past the addiction you find out your guild depends on you. cause your the best healer or dps or tank. Then it becomes a job cause you dont want to let the people you pretty much spent 90% of your life with for the last few months or years.
Anyways I reccomend not playing Wow if you can help it.
Unless you would like to try some of this heroin I sell, the first hit is free.
