Gross, gross case. I wouldn't let that thing in my house. It'd be a very loud PC, but I suppose if you're ok with that it wouldn't be terrible. Two 4890s aren't bad for just over $1k.

Jiggly is the only one impressed lol. I actually don't mind linux. I wouldn't really choose it for gaming but it is a good OS to have for using on PC repair, data security, and stability. And besides a Mac's OS is basically just closed source linux (both are unix based of course). Trust me without linux people most corporations might not even exist on the internet (hence linux is much more commonly used on servers) ;)

How so? Intel contributes a lot more than AMD to the kernel. Also battery life on amds on notebooks is a joke on *nix.

Wait...so that old Athlon XP 3200+/A7N8X-E Deluxe (nForce2 Ultra 400) box I have is much better with Linux than my flagship system, which seems to have no problems other than the poor X-Fi driver support (but at least there ARE open-source drivers)?

Just because Crossover Games contributes more to the wine project doesn't mean that their version of Wine is better (probably a bad example lol)

Its just with my experience. I have had Linux on 3 different laptops, one intel the others AMD. The AMD ones have worked better and faster than the one intel one.

I've had all intels on my servers no problems compiling the Linux kernel with any of them, even the RCs I have had no problem. Just have to pick what you want with the make config for them. However they work at stock settings with any good distro that is on a recent 2.6.26+ kernel. Though I still think Freebsd is the underdog compared to Linux.(Which I like more)

I am not sure where amd is better for Linux, because their virtualization performance is worse.

Crossover is a commercial version of wine, it's based on wine :? It just has more specific applications in mind when developing, so they freeze a distribution of wine in time and work on that version. Sort of what like Redhat does to Linux, I don't like it. Though crossover is nice, but I don't use wine or crossover for games, it's silly to use *nix as a gaming platform. Occasional 2d games are nice however. (I am a total nerd, I have games that run in SSH)

I don't hate AMD, I just know that they don't pay attention to *nix as much as Intel. They are a smaller company after all.

Yes the Linux kernel is perfect for those, I am talking about the latest new hardware chips that come out. AMD is a bit slower.

That I have no doubt of, but I keep Windows XP on it for a reason-it's my classic gaming machine, for those titles that absolutely hate my flagship system and refuse to run on it. (Heavy Gear II and MechWarrior 2 come to mind.) That said, I'd dual-boot Ubuntu on it if I just had more hard drive space. (It's currently using a hand-me-down 40 GB 4,200 RPM PATA laptop drive. I may move the WD5000AAKS to it if I ever get my hands on a couple of 1 or 2 TB drives for my flagship, though-that'll certainly keep the hard drive from ever being a bottleneck on that system.) It's also the reason why I put a GeForce 6800 Ultra in it when I found one for dirt cheap, instead of sticking with the originally-intended Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB that I got for dirt cheap along with its RAM-NVIDIA just has much better Linux drivers from my understanding, albeit binary-only.

[QUOTE="Lockedge"]Gross, gross case. I wouldn't let that thing in my house. It'd be a very loud PC, but I suppose if you're ok with that it wouldn't be terrible. Two 4890s aren't bad for just over $1k.UltimateGamer95

The case is very quiet actually and it's of excellent quality (it's from Thermaltake!). Here watch 3DGameman's review on it http://www.youtube.com/user/3DGAMEMAN#p/search/2/sxh9NlTqJ8E

Excellent quality or not, it's hideous. :P Some tacky cases can be ok looking, but they need to have proper design. Whoever designed the Xaser case has no place in designing cases. :P It might be quietish, and provide ok airflow and cooling, ad ease of use, but if there are other cases better than it, you need to provide reasons for the case to be bought over those others. Usually it's the design that tips the edge, and that design won't do it. That's my opinion though, but none of my friends I've shown it to have liked it. :P

Now thats how its done, Crossfired 4890's are nothing to laugh about and the 965 is a beast... this makes my work a little easier around here, I'll just copy and paste this to US gamers with similar budgets :P. I7's are overrated in the "gaming" community IMO.

For $1000 USD anyways though you'd had to sacrifice on components for an i7 rig.

An i5 rig for $1000 would be better for gaming.

And Phenom II would be better than that. Anyway, when did this topic turn to garbage? UG, take my advice, next time you find a great deal on the internet that blows for the price, make sure it has an inferior Intel chip compared to a superior AMD chip, just for the good of the thread (for it not to turn into what it did now).

I Goddamn hope Intel will lose in the latest NYC lawsuit...

Oh, so Jiggly started it as well... Anyway, I won't even bother.

Oh lordy, I don't hate AMD in the slightest bit. I am saying in Linux their cpus for power management in servers is bad, as well as battery life on notebooks. They do well as desktops, well I would assume anyway, I don't have any amd pcs. (Not a hater :))

Also I was just stating facts, Intel is one of the top contributers to the Linux kernel.
