IS this on anyone Else's mind? I don't really care about your opinion, if you don't play WoW; however, feel free to express it! I just want Blizzard to pimp out WoW. Is that really a bad thing? I think it is possible.
Anyone?

Hehe. Exactly. If anything, they should be updating the models and textures. Nothing to do with dx10.
You may want to read up on the DirectX architecture before making a statement like that :P
All DX10 does is improve performance on advanced shaders, particles, and post process effects. So updating models and textures really wouldn't have anything to do with dx10.
Why would anyone vote no? Angry GW fans?LiLsLashyWhy someone would vote no is because WoW purposely has bad graphics. The system requirements to run WoW are intentionally low to allow as many people to be able to run it as possible. To try to make up for the poor graphics the game has a stylized look to it, which alot of people find more attractive than realistic graphics.
A DX10 overhaul would not benefit the hundreds of thousands (or perhaps even in the millions) of users who do not have a top of the line PC, video card, and Vista.
You're asking Blizzard to throw away all those customers, or alienate them by only throwinga bone to those with the higher-end, brand new PC's. WoW is supposed to be all about accessibility, and for that reason you'd actually have to be an angry GW fan to vote yes, as it would anger a chunk of WoW's customer base.
Sircyrus basically said what I wanted to say. Yes WoW's graphics may not have the polygon count of many other games, but the world is so polished that it makes it look better than basically any other MMO around.
If you want WoW with better graphics go play LotR.

How about avid WoW players that have no plans to upgrade their OS or video card anytime soon?

Not to mention the fact that people like artistic value in their surroundings.. Why do most people have painted pictures, far less precise, realistic etc etc then real life photos of land scape?
I see a lot of people make the point that people wouldn't be willing to upgrade their hardware. I don't see ow this makes much of a difference. EvE online will be directX10 compatible, I'm sure you will still be able to play with DirectX9. Just because you can play WoW on an older system doesn't necessarily mean you would have to ditch the original to implement DX10. Does it?
All I am really interested in improving things like textures, models, lighting, draw distance etc. All things that users could choose to upgrade. If Blizzard were to completely spiff out the graphics, it would be pretty silly to not use directX10.

........ The point still stands why make a game look technologically advanced when it wasn't to begin with nor was it never the goal. Eve and WoW can't be compared they are completely two different games..

proving that idiots are magnetic
No offense taken, as I actually found that a bit funny.
Seriously though, some people in this thread seem to agree with our point, being that WoW's graphics can hardly be called advanced. There's plenty of room for improvement, without the "need" for dx10 features. The cartoony graphic style is another discussion entirely, because it's a matter of personal taste.
Cheers,

I didn't compare EVE with WOW. I used the path EvE online is taking as a comparison to the possible path WoW could take. This comparison was in the context of adding support for the DirectX10 API, NOT as a comparison between game types... Sheesh!!!
As for this...

I can only say a few things. Firstly, games don't strive to look "technologically advanced". I think we can all agree that most/all game developers strive to make their games look as good as possible. WoW was made to look the way it does so many people can play. Just because the game doesn't need a big beefy computer to play, doesn't mean it wont look/run better on a more powerful computer.
To answer the main point of your question; there are many reasons to make it look better: Overall look and feel of the game (duh) aka immersion, player base (people like me), and most importantly, to keep the game alive. If this is a valid point, this "why make it look better because it wasn't made that way"... To answer this, I ask you this in response.
Why did Everquest get a graphical upgrade?

Why did Everquest get a graphical upgrade?
Because the game was over 5 to 6 years old before it got the upgrade ..
Not to mention clearly WoW's popularity has nothing to do with the subpar graphics.. So if they are getting insane popularity already why would they upgrade graphics to the point that could possibly alienate quite afew people.. If it ain't broke don't fix it, we do not need every game to be cutting edge in technology to look great..
