okay i made a topic before about how to fight rogues but now i find that i am getting defeated by ppl 10 lvls below me bcus of a simple technique( im level 33 btw). when i am charging my frostbolt, they simply go through me!!!!! by doing this they come up behind me and my spell gets interrupted. how do i tackle this? also how powerful are mages when they are lvl 80? i heard that the classes arent really balanced and ive heard that priests and warlocks are crazy strong. are mages one of the weaker classes even at lvl 80?

I think you are standing still for too long. The only times you shouldn't be moving is only when you are casting. You should rely more on your instant cast spells. Letting any melee character get up to you and strike pretty much means you lost the fight already. Mobility is the key for a mage.

As for level 80, i think mages are pretty strong. You may have misinterpreted what you heard. Mages dont fare well agaisnt priests and warlocks. Priest's healing efficiency makes it that for every 1 point of damage, the priest can heal 2 points of damage at the same mana cost. Warlocks have very high HP and their damage over time spells really hurt a mage as once the spell is on the mage, the mage no longer has a mobility advantage. Mages fare best against melee classes.

Make use of Frost Nova and blink to keep your distance. Dont be afraid to use Polymorph even in the middle of a fight. Even if Poly does heal, take the time to eat something or use evocation and start the fight over again if things werent going your way. Hit hard and fast, gain distance, and hit them again.

Dont be too focused on PVP in the early levels. You're still missing a ton of spells and tools to use.

so is it impossible for an equally skilled (at pvp) mage at lvl 80 to defeat an equally skilled warlock or priest at lvl 80? also its so annoying that the only instant spells u have at early levels are fire blast and cone of cold both of whom with long cooldowns

frost mages is one of the strongest class atm if mastered ofc , use rank 1 frostbolt for fast slow , dont be afraid of using spells outside frost tree (fire blast , arcane missiles , polimorph etc.) just force them to waste anti cc cd with kiting then frost nowa and frostbolt + fire blast should do loads of damage at this level ... frost mages are getting stronger with every level , also in cata they are getting all main spells at very low lvl.s ( for now ice lance is lvl. 20 spell i think )

Use Frost Nova and blink. You can blink out of cheap shot Forst Mages in particular get better for PVP at higher lvls. You get more freezing spells and increase the movement speed reduction from your frost spells. lvl 80 mages not being good in pvp is a lie most go arcane spec these days and drop you like crazy. But PVP these days is just crap its all about Death Knights and Warriors i got full tier 9 PVP gear on my rogue but it dont them from hitting me for 10k.

On a 1v1? Probably not a warlock provided gear and skill are equal and one doesn't get the jump on the other. Now i mentioned the priest can heal through most of your damage, but i never mentioned him killing you. I play a (healing) priest mostly. In PVP i just ingore mages. They often try to kill me, but they basically tickle me.... But i dont have any tools to actually take them down. I soak up their damage and let someone else kill them as the mage will be low on mana. A 1v1 fight agaisnt a mage drags on for a while. On the other hand rogues and warriors give my priest a hard time. i need it to be 2v1 most of them time to win against them.

A mage stands a very good chance against a shadow priest as a mage's counterspell hurts like crazy since you lock out all shadow spells from the shadow priest - which is basically every spell they can cast.

Dont be afrid to use Ice Block even to just bide some time to let Frost Nova and Fireblast's refresh their coooldown. Really take advantage of Frostbolt's slow down effect.

You are still young and don't have all of your tricks, but for the most part, you need to blink your cheap shot off, shield, and run around, hit, and run around some more. It's a kiting skill rather than a sit and DD skill. If they use sprint, Nova them and continue the process. If they vanish, use rank 1 Arcane Blast to find them. There are a lot of videos of this on youtube.

I don't know how to play as mage but there is one thing i can tell ya. Mages and priests are the strongest classes so you just have to know how to play. But of course there are always a class that can defeat another one that's how the game works, it's like rock paper scissors, I think the warlock can beat you but other than that the mage especially the frost can beat any class especially warriors and rogues.

Uh, you have hands. Use them. Keep the right mouse button pressed and follow your target.

You say that like it's easy... you would have to instantly do a 180 just to get the spell off when they do that run through casting bull.

Well, it is easy. Turning your character takes no time. It's just a flick of your wrist. I do have a mage an other casters and I don't have a problem targeting people. It probably takes some practice but when he keeps pvping for a while he shouldn't have that problem any more.

hold down M2 while casting and turn with the enemy if theyre strafing you while your casting.

When i quit a couple of months ago, frost mage was the most powerful all-rounder PvP class there was. Has tricks for every situation. Unless something has changed, I'd say stick with your mage.

I'm gonna guess your new to the whole World of Warcraft thing. I would recommend checking out the Mage forum on the offical WoW website for a detailed guides with all sort of information. I play 80 Mage currently as my main and the mage class is pretty solid class in pvp as frost and Arcane can be pretty viable if played correctly. You will get better playing your current class by just keep on doing pvp figure out different strategy for each class on what to do and what not to do counter certain situation. You never want Rogue to get the opener on you cause the interrupt you speak of is probably garrote which will silence you for few seconds. You should Acrane Blast / Frost Nova bring them out of stealh then blink with rank 1 frost bolt get the slow effect on them fast and up rank the spell, if you get silence just ice block to cancel the effect or to let blink / frost nova off cool down. You will get better just hang in there plus you get Ice Barrier at 40 and remember keep mana shield up to soak up some of the damage. I would also recommend getting some macro together help you out they come in handy should find them on Mage WoW forum. I would also check out different premade spec for your talents maybe your not spending them correctly hope this helps.
