I like Rift more. The Ascended system is really cool, the rifts actually get me to enjoy cooperating with other players(something no other MMO as ever been able to do), and it looks really damn good for an MMO. It's got everything I need from WoW, with added stuff and pretty graphics. The only thing I feel WoW has in advantage is content, since it's almost seven years old and Rift came out only a few months ago. Can't wait to see what stuff gets added in any Rift expansions.

Those were pretty much the reasons why I might get Rift over WoW; better graphics and really cool rifts.

The Rifts are pretty cool. Like mini instances that pop up everywhere. And you can get a ton of XP if you do them in groups of two or three. As for graphics, I'm still in awe at how beautiful it looks sometimes. I can't believe they made an MMO look that good.

WoW was boring with grinding the same BGs, and heroic system for 3 xpacs. Its just more of the same. Rift while i loved it for 2 months, the endgame is very lacking so i didnt renew after my 2nd month. The class system started out fresh, but started to homogenize, everything was becoming the same again. Rifts were cool when it started, but got dull quick.

IDK, maybe im just hard to please, but Rift did face a huge population drop off since its release. I am currently waiting it out for KOTR and GW2 later this year.

I gave rift a shot a few months ago, didnt think it was as good as wow, and got hacked so I quit. I played cata for the last 2 months and have since went back to rift, I contacted a GM and got all my money back from getting hacked only took 3 days. cata felt stale very fast, IMO wow is the best out there, but not for people that have been playing a few years. I gave rift a 2nd shot and am enjoying it because it is different, If I had never [layed a mmo before wow is better, just because of all the content and polish, but for me rift is a good enough game and is starting to grow on me, I was lucky and the guild I joind right after launch, but I havent been a part of because I havent been playing, turned out to be a good raiding guild in the time I was gone. WOW is stale and the community sucks, havent had bad experiances with the community in rift yet, Im sure I will but not on the daily like I did with wow, The worst online community to ever exist.

Quests in WoW: 75% are "Kill X of Y."

The WoW Grind: Do these 10 dungeons literally 50 times, enduring lots of random people's annoyances over and over!

Rift: Dunno, but I've heard it gets stale after a while. :(

Now wow after that huge patch become way too simple it pretty much holds your hand all the way to top level. Rift is oposite this game puts so many mobs in same spot that its easy to be overwelmed and die.

So depends if you want really easy or not so easy for Rift.

My personal opinion is wow from 2+yrs ago beats it by a landslide but with last 2 bad addons and that huge patch dumbed down wow to a ridiculous level that Rift is better now.

I'm mostly psyched for Guild Wars 2, but The Old Republic will probably get my attention if it's released before GW2, which seems very likely.

Thats actually a compliment to say 75% of an MMO's quests are kill X of Y. This means 1 in 4 quests in WoW is pretty unique and fun to do. Considering Rift was 99.9% kill X or bring back Y. Out of my leveling to 50 I did 1 unique quest... I also played both factions. The Rifts get boring FAST, like, REALLY fast. Yes it looks good, but to me WoW blows everything out of the water artistically. WoW is still the best MMO imo to be had.

A newcomer can appreciate it more as well. Rift is just not that good of an MMO, I feel like it accomplished the basics and nothing more. Also..the 10 dungeons over and over? Maybe endgame, and still 10 dungeons is a lot. While leveling there are maaaannnnnyyyyyy dungeons on the road to 85.

I am a pvp person, and from a pvp perspective, rift rapes WoW and then tosses it aside like a dead hooker.

The Soul(talent) trees add alot more to pvp and every single one is useable unlike WoW where there is normally always a better choice. It adds variety to what you fight, and it also adds variety to how you fight. I cant say much for the pve, as i leveled all the way to 50 just doing pvp.

I am a PVP person too and was disappointed by Rift.

You say every soul tree is useable sure, but VIABLE? No. Warfronts are littered with only the best souls, which at the time of me playing, was nothing but pyro mages, sab rogues, and champ warriors. Whichever team had more of those 3 classes pretty much won. The pvp souls are a joke outside of warriors. Clerics are godmode because healing debuffs are hard to come by. Its honestly more effecient to bring a dominator spec mage and drain the cleric than rely on a healing debuff.

I played defient side first. It was probably just my warfront grouping... but I have never seen such crazy imbalance. i litterally had a ~20% win ratio on my defiant at 50, then i rerolled guardian and won almost every WF.

I usually queued for WFs while doing quests, but only lvling to 50 from PVP? My god that must of taken months unless you do it ~8hrs daily o_o...kudos to you.

But yea, thats my grip. It wasnt peachy to me.

On the other hand while not a pure MMO, im having a BLAST with League of Legends PVP.

Ultima online DUHH! :P but really ive been playing wow for years now and took a break for a few months and im back on. i downloaded the trial for rift, and was an idoit and didnt play X) so over all i'd pick wow. soo many people play it, there usaully always someone there to help you out, also a good way to pick is if you have anyfriends that play one, playing a mmo with real life friends makes it wayy more fun

Ive played both but have never played the "endgame" for either. lol I only played the trial for Rift but it was still fun. Not as much a change as I was looking for though. It looks great and the combat feels a little better than WoWs but I dont know if Id pay for it really. The only reason why Id pay for WoW is cuz its fully featured and has a consistently huge population. It is very repetitive though and I hate the grind but I do love exploring and both games have that and I do like the mount system in WoW even though I never got to experience the one in RIFT. Another problem in Rift is that there isnt much of a tutorial. I played WoW and it is similar but I would have still liked to have SOME instructions cuz I could get lost in those menus. Im not one to complain too much about in game tuts but it can be different sometimes and its just lazy not to include one on such a big game. I dont have time to trial and error everything in the game, you know?

If you are just starting either of them, I would say go with Rift. I really enjoyed Rift but I'm just so burnt out on questing in any form that I couldn't fathom taking a character to max level. Rift is a great game, looks nice, runs very well, and has some nice features that WoW does not. Personally, I'm just sticking with WoW because I have invested so much time in it.

Someone else mentioned that WoW pre-Cata would have beaten Rift in most aspects, I agree with that.

Prior to Cata (and some might argue Wrath) WoW was a much better game. But now it is nothing but a frustrating, grindy mess. Even with the CtA bribery to tanks and healers there is still a major shortage since it is a massive pain to play either unless you heavily outgear the content. That is how bad the end game is at present. Rift on the other hand was fun, but the end game isn't great either. The expert dungeons take forever and their is a huge grind to get decent PvP gear, I never raided, but I hear it is not as good as WoW used to be.

So it's basically a toss up, you can either play WoW and be frustrated in end-game or play Rift and be bored. At least in Rift good tanks and healers can still make up for 1 or 2 bads, whereas in WoW one bad in a heroic or raid group almost guarantees failure.

Yep, I used to love tanking in wrath, and I was a good tank. Cata is hit or miss, 1 dumbass can ruin the heroic and the tank gets the blame no matter what. I started to hate tanking in cata because the tank always seems to get the blame for everything even though I have done it 100 times before. In wrath a good tank could save the group and pull then trough, not in cata. I also see there is no respect for tanks like there used to be. Have had quite a few dps steal my tanks drops for off spec. I quit wow, it is more frustrating then fun now, if I run with my friends we still have a blast but we are on different schedules so I have to pug alot and cata is no fun for that. I just quit the game for good.

Yeah tanks and healer difficulty/attention went up by an order of magnitude and they still get blamed for everything. I spent two weeks gearing my DK tank for heroics and still couldn't do it reliably. My healer is even worse, one mistake or running oom means you just wiped the whole group and are probably getting kicked or browbeaten. The loot problem is a direct result of the failure rate in heroics. People cannot reliably complete them using the RDF so they grab anything they can when they do. Similarly healers and tanks are so scared of screwing up they will only run as DPS until they get the gear they need so they roll on heal/tank gear and get booted.

IMO Blizz really dropped the ball... then kicked it into traffic on this expansion.

I agree that there are many dungeons while leveling, but the endgame gets really stale, especially if you know what you are doing, really quickly, which is unfortunate. Also, while 75% are, in my opinion, "Kill X of Y," many other quests simply involve transporting goods from one place to another. I hate to say it, but RuneScape quests were often intriguing, interesting, and took you all over the world, not just in one small area or zone. It's still pretty much the best on the market, I just wish the endgame lasted longer. Heroics for a month straight was pretty terrible, then after doing all the raids in two weeks, there wasn't really anything left, considering PvP was shat upon with Cata, in my humble opinion. Warlocks are pretty broken.

I am actually right back in rift to where I quit playing. I am level 21 on a new character I rerolled because it was so long since I played. I am bored to death of the game exactly like last time. I dont know what it is about rift, it seems fun for a min then all of a sudden its gone and it sucks, oh well I guess no mmos for me until something fresh and good is released.

2 hours a day to get to 50 since release day there is a once a day repeatable for pvp that gives alot of xp , and i find the classes least played are actually best because people dont know how to counter them. Such as riftblade for warrior, i used all the ranged attacks and since they were elemental they did alot more damage than champion. The only soul i would say sucks is beast master, its a good secondary...but as far as primary you rely on your pet too much and that isnt good for pvp.

It did have some balance problems in the beginning but its pretty good now, i took a 1 month break and its much more balanced now.

Also LoL is pretty fun, except that it breaks on patches alot lol.

I wanted to like RIFt and a friend bought me the CE but after a month I just didn't like it.

I actually didn't like the RIFTS thought they are always in the way of questing and a PIA.

WOW I played when first came out and stuck with it for 1.5yrs then qwit. When the sale of everything Plaus Cata for like $50usd I jumped.

Took a mage to 85 and hit the gear grind for both PvE and PvP thats when I said I'm done.

I'm not play/paying either and I won't, but really between the two WOW edges ahead by a nose. The content is there where with RIFT it seems not so much.

I didn't get to 50 in RIFT and have no desire to the quests - didn't keep my attention enough to want to get to 50.

WOW I wanted nothing more then to get to 85 and loved the flying mounts and the quests - but after 85 the end game sucs IMO

If the last WOW patch made it even easier then you can get to 85 in 2wks just by heavy play not no-life play - the kind where you don't play any other game but WOW.

Leveling in WoW is an absolute joy.

The gear grind is as bad as the worst MMOs once you hit top level.
