Hey guys..i've heard many different things about this game. I've heard people say its the best game ever..and then there are those who say they've lost hype over it. Im thinking about getting a free-trial and trying it out. I was hoping number one, if someone could please tell me where I could download a trial for this game? and maybe also post if you think this game is really worth it? I guess in the end id figure that out for myself..but whatever. THANKS!

It depends on who you ask, there are those who appreciate the lore, the gameplay mechanics, the challenge of the end-game dungeons and so forth. Others tend to thrash out at the mere mention of the 2004 Gamespot GOTY. Personally I like the game, however it is probably best enjoyed in short stints. If you want to download the trial, you can get it off the world of warcraft website

10 day trial isn't a great view of the game. Its a good start, but I knew it took me several months to realize that I didn't enjoy playing.

Interesting way of rationalizing your behaviour, however saying that it takes you several months to determine whether or not you like something or not doesn't really make you look smarter. Look at me, I can say with certainty that I HATE the Opening the Dark Portal instance after only running it 3-4 times, it didn't take me several months and hundreds of runs to come to the conclusion that I would only run this instance to get attuned for Karazhan and various other tanking gear.

C'mon be a man, admit that you simply just got bored with the game, not that Blizzard somehow hoodwinked you out of several months of time and good chunk of change.

WoW's too focused on the hardcore, give-up-their-life-to-the-game people (trust me, I know one). All of the really great content seems to be accessible only to those who spend all their time in game. I never reached 70 because 1.) grouping for quests up until then was unimaginable, and 2.) the early game content was too repetitive for my tastes. All of my friends who play WoW don't hang out with me anymore because they are always raiding or questing, and their guild has only started to get to Karazhan. If that instance eats away at your time like that, I can't imagine how anyone can get to Black Temple already. Sorry for the rant, but for me, WoW was a definite waste of my time and money. It was just another MMO where gear > skill unfortunately. I'm not saying it doesn't take skill, but let's be honest here, all you WoW players know it's true. I would consider waiting for these other MMOs like Warhammer Online, Age of Conan, or Guild Wars 2.

I enjoyed the first 10 levels, but after that I was pretty much looking forward to PvP the entire time and really didn't enjoy the grind to get there. I do admit I enjoyed the few moments with friends running instances, but besides that it did feel that I was jipped out of a few months. If you have a large amount of fun, you won't drop a game at the first signs of a downfall.

I too wanted to get a 70 for PvP, but once you hit 25 or so, it's just running, flying, clicking, for hours a day. Once you get your mount, it'll get a bit easier, but until then 25-40 lvls are a nightmare.

1. You don't really need to group up for quests to get to 70, not that you care now. Still why would you want to MMPORPG if you don't want to work with others.

2. You don't stay early level all that long. at least compared to other mmporpgs, and I have played a lot.

3. You are probably overestimating the time sink put into raiding and so forth, at most you can only clear a raid instance once a week, that's because Blizzard prevents you from doing the instance any more than that, at most a guild will spend a day doing any particular raid. Since as you say, their guild is only starting to get into Kara, there isn't really all that much else for them to raid other than that. If your friends are unwilling to hang out with you during the time they aren't raiding (which should be most) it's probably more about you than the game.

4.If you actually reached 70 and did some of the end game content, you would know that you will need quite a bit of skill to get through them, especially if you are a tank.

5. //Wait until Warhammer Online, Age of Conan, or Guild Wars 2//. You know if I had a nickle every time I heard the 'Wait until x MMPORPG come along' argument, I would have enough to pay for a subcription to WOW for a decade, I've certainly have been hearing it for nearly that long. It doesn't matter what game I'm playing there will be a horde of people assured that some game coming out in the future would be the solution to everyone's problems. And once that game comes out there will be another horde of people claiming that another game even further in the future, will be the best and no one should bother with anything else. Mostly what these arguement do is trick gullible newbies into waiting for the game developed by god that will never come.

TC, just play the game and decide for yourself if you like the game or not, 10 days is plenty enough to get you to level 20, then you will be able to decide whether to go on or not.

WoW is much more friendly than EQ 1 and 2. I'm an old EQ hand and man.....did they ever punish you for dying. From what I've heard WoW is much friendlier. It's still an MMO though so you still have to put in the time if you want an uber character. That's just a fact of life.

I played WoW for 2 years, had 3 70's, a few 40+ characters & then the day came that I realised the game was repetitive & boring at 70.

Indeed, in Wow all you'd get is that you would have to run back to your corpse and have your equipment wear down a bit, at later level this does get a bit expensive, but you should have plenty of money to cover it. If you choose not to run back to your corpse, you just pay more and get a 10 minute debuff, that's it. None of the XP debt common in games prior to WOW. In PVP, it's even more lienient as your equipment doesn't get worn down

For me the game is as much about the social aspect as the high end content.

I have been lucky in that I have found a good guild of friends that I get along with and enjoy playing the game with. Heck even if we aren't in an instance or PvP it's good fun just to sit around and chat about Chuck Norris :P (WoW joke sorry!)

I would say that 10 days is enough to get you to level 20 and for you to decide if you like the game, I would say to you however that you shouldn't just pick aspecifictypeand run with it, try them all out and see which one best suits you. In your first day you could probably get one of each and level them all to level 5 and see which one is the most fun, then run with that one to level 20.

For me on a personal level the game took a HUGE nosedive after the release of The Burning Crusade expansion, far too much reputation grinding for items and not enough fun involved any more. Seems the game is more geared towards the people who are willing (And able!!) to spend large chunks of their time to keep their character going. Not for the casual person like myself who logs on for a couple of hours a night.

So my final advice would be to try everything, see which you prefer and if you stick with it, find a good guild to chat to and keep you laughing. Oh and avoid Paladin's I have a level 70 one as my main and after level 40ish we suck and killing anything solo!!

Personally I didn't find it all that hard to do rep grinds in BC (alot easier than it was pre-BC imo), you can simply run the instances that faction is related to, and at revered run the heroic versions of said instances, and use the signets/marks you find to build up Scryer/Aldor Rep. even with a couple hours a day you'll be exalted with at least a couple factions within a month.

I am a lowbie who levels slow, but having a good group of RL/non-RL friends in a guild makes even mundane activities.
