I have played WoW frequently at a friends house but just moved and lost contact with him. Needless to say im itching to play more but dont know the pc requirements, also its been out so long is there any sense in buying such an old game when another could be coming out? I wouldn know i usually stick to consoles so please fill me in.

WoW isn't demanding,you could build a $550-600 PC that'll max out WoW.

NO you cannot run WoW on Dial up. You MUST have DSL or Cable internet. Thats just how it goes.

other than that, any PC running Windows2000 or xp can run the game. My computer is a few years old and it can run WoW on medium resolution. I have Cable Internet by the way.

First of all, yes you can run WoW on dial-up as long as no one shares the connection. The internet connection you absolutely can't play on is satellite broadband, the latency is way too high.

Second, the specs for machine to play WoW will require at least 1 GB of RAM, not 512 MB. Although, it is recommended that you have 2 GB of RAM and a decent CPU and video card.

So really, any Intel Core 2 duo will work finen as a CPU. For GPU, I am estimating Nvidia's mid and high for Series 7 and 8 for best or ATi's x1 and HD2 series at mid or high. I know ATI HD2600 can run all settings at max.

When I played WoW I knew someone who used satellite and someone who used 56k dial-up. The person with satellite had about a 2000 ping most of the time, but was able to play the game pretty well. The person with dial-up couldn't stay connected to the realm server for a very long period of time without dropping.

Trust me, playing with 512mb of ram is a nightmare. You can't even get into the capital cities because of the massive hardrive thrashing.

Most important componant, Ram.

Second most important component, GPU. Even a radeon 9600xt should be able to run wow ok. A geforce 2 card like the min req says will give you very low FPS.

I agree on the point about the RAM. When I had WoW, I was running it on a 1.25GHz eMac with 512MB of RAM. I met a guy who had the same model of computer who was getting the same horrible FPS that I got. After he upgraded to 1GB of RAM, he got a much higher FPS. On the subject of a graphics card, anything that isn't an nvidia FX series should do.

I never rely on integrated graphics for video games. Never after my first self-owned computer. The integrated graphics was an SiS GPU. But that depends on the integrated GPU. In a way, my notebook can be considered to have integrated graphics, but I do not consider it as such because it is an ATI x1400 mobility radeon with 128 MB of video that is not a part of system memory. But, I can't play it on max settings.
