What BS........
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Just end: We should stop making dvd movies because of piracy. And that cost more money to make a movie than it is for a game. In fact Gaming is trying to become like movies. And if they think Piracy is their only concern? they must be day dreaming. I am no pc game pirate at all. Just sickens me to hear crap like this.
Another news flash: Hackers are less interested in closed platform because of other platform much more powerful. Get rid of pc's and they find themselfs hacking consoles.
Business People are so stupid sometimes. They think consoles are piracy proof??   thats all i have to say.
He just isn't willing to accept that Gears is a mediocre game and most PC gamers simply aren't interested in its only saving grace, its visuals, which were impressive on the 360 but are far overshadowed on the PC by several games.
Besides, who cares about GoW2? I recently started playing Mass Effect and I find it almost laugh-out-loud funny how much better than GoW's the ME combat model is. Gears of War 2 is already pretty much obsolete.
The only real reason to play Gears, besides the visuals, was for the coop, and with Left 4 Dead coming out...
Cliffy's a vegetable for expecting monster sales anyway.
It's considered a half-assed port, it wasn't lax on the system, the hype had died down significantly and most of the people who'd have bought it anyway got it for the 360 a year before the port was released.
"The person who is savvy enough to want to have a good PC to upgrade their video card, is a person who is savvy enough to know [BitTorrent] all the elements so they can pirate software," says Bleszinski. "Therefore, high-end video games are suffering very much on the PC."
from how these devs speak, they make it out that ALL pc gamers who have the knowledge on how to build their pc and how to pirate games, actually pirate games... if that was the case, i must be the only pc gamer on earth who knows how to pirate games, but doesnt. i'm sitting here looking at gears of war PC on my shelf thinking "man i wish i pirated that buggy, poorly optimised pile of crap, burnt it to disk and then thrown it at cliffy B's forehead and shouted something very profound which i cant be arsed thinking up right now"....
that guy is a tw@t
Seems like only a a couple of years ago that Epic said this about the first Gears of War.
Oh. Wait.

That is true maybe I'm jusmping to conclusions to quickly, I'm just feelin disappointment that so many companies are now moving dev time over to consoles.
Gaming is starting to lose so much respect thease days. The future of gaming are $$$, Halfed assed games and control. And don't expect much support from them either. For the most part If gaming on the PC seems to cease I would rather buy a Laptop then a stupid console.
Much more useful. And be surprised how wide laptop screen have become.
It was considered a pretty good port with bad GFWL, from what I remember.Cliffy's a vegetable for expecting monster sales anyway.

I'm sick of you people complaining about piracy and pirates .
In my opinion pirates help publishers sell their games ,especially the ones that have (multiplayer) , as for the rest ...oh , well .
and gamespot members , please stop complaining about piracy , because I'm 100% sure that AT LEAST 95% of GS members have AT LEAST 1 pirated game .
PEACE OUT !
As if being a boring and repetitive game wasn't bad enough; it also had issues that were never fixed.
Why would anyone want the sequel on PC?
I enjoyed the first game but all I can do at hearing this news is shrug and go on to other games.
Someone posted another story a while back about this. But back then, their reason for not making a PC version was because they only wanted to concentrate on the console version.
Why would anyone want the sequel on PC?

Shoot, cover, shoot, cover, macho remark, shoot...
I recall even 360 gamers said GOW was repetitive and boring, saved only by its multiplayer. Funny how they now think it is the best thing ever because a sequel is in the works, SW image I suppose.
So i'm a pirate now because i can build myself a good PC? what kind of BS comments is that?
Well F*** you EPIC, i will glad to pirate GOW2 when it comes out for the PC... i'm sure it will...
tiiaan
Havent you heard? console gamers are dumb so these companies like epic relies on them to surive. I know right very sad to what Cliffy B***H has to say

Like Crysis isn't repetative. SW image too. Expansion for a boring game.
I would never make a game for PC either. Pirating is just too recidulous nowadays. Any true gamer would put out the cash to buy a game they really want. If you can't afford to game, then don't.Ghost_702
Thats why i don't own consoles because the games are way too expensive and not really worth it eitther. I much rather pay for cheaper pc games than ANY CONSOLE GAME. They dont get no support from me in the console arena. My money is better spent where its more useful perhaps a nice laptop on the go.
Gaming is losing respect at a ridculously rate nowdays thanks to these bs halfed ass games, that if a game dont sell blame it on piracy tatic. For the most part these next generation games i am not thrilled that much anymore so its not worth to dish out for a console if i am not going to play it that much. What happens when a console game sells poorly?? all of a sudden it goes into silence really quickly. Not so for pc games. "yea lets blame it on piracy"
Again i would rather spend where its more useful these days.

Crysis isn't repetitive.
One enemy I stealth up on and execute him with a pistol to the back of the head, the next I grab hold of and strength throw him through a building, the next is 200 metres away so I headshot him with my sniper rifle, the next I drive over in my jeep, the next I lure into a building I rigged with explosives and pop it while he's inside, the next I take pity on and down him with a tranq.
Crysis is one of the least repetitive shooters ever made. They give you the tools to make it an incredibly diverse game - you just have to use them.
People who call Crysis boring or repetitive are the type who lack the imagination or the creativity to make proper use of the large assortment of tools the game provides. It's not the game's fault that you're accustomed to being spoonfed.

All you do in Crysis is run and shoot wheter its sniping or cloaking and uncloaking only to shoot again. MGS 4 actually allows you to sneak and not kill if you choose.

Thank you for proving my point for me. You can stealth through most of Crysis. Had you the creativity to see how the AI works, see how the nanosuit works and figure out how to make the two work together, you'd know that.
Besides, criticising a first person shooter for running and shooting isn't exactly a well thought out, objective comment, is it now? One might argue that all you do in the MGS games is sneak around and occasionally shoot people. That's pretty repetitive, no?

Don't bother with the troll...
Gears of War was too ridiculously newbified for me to be able to enjoy it at all. Between the huge, slow enemies and the overall lack of actual aiming (or any other skill) required (as the game was obviously designed for a gamepad). The whole game is about pressing a button to take cover, standing there and shooting (while standing still of course). What happened to Epic's focus on movement? And c'mon, automatic leaning? Give me a left leaning button and a right leaning button, and leave cover hotspots for AI. Every aspect of Gears of War is about everything that is awful about 3D console shooters. Keep that garbage out of PC gaming.
Oh, and Epic is dead.

I don't use a pad in Crysis though, does that make me the missing link between the species? OOOh, or maybe the NEXT link? Yeah, I like that.
And yes, yes, ME's SP campaign totally pwns Gears. I'm glad you finally decided to play it.

I'm with you, man. I think all PC games need a demo or trial since renting it isn't an option.

March 10, 2008 - Tim Sweeny, CEO of Epic Games, the studio behind Gears of War and Unreal, recently declared his concerns with PC gaming when he spoke toTG Daily. The biggest offender to the industry, he believes, are hardware vendors who cater to the masses instead of the potential gamer.
"It is very important not to leave the masses behind. This is unfortunate, because PCs are more popular than ever. Everyone has a PC. Even those who did not have a PC in the past are now able to afford one and they use it for Facebook, MySpace, pirating music, or whatever. Yesterday's PCs were for people that were working and later playing games. Even if those games were lower-end ones, there will always be a market for casual games and online games like World of WarCraft. World of WarCraft has DirectX 7-****graphics and can run on any computer. But at the end of the day, consoles have definitely left PC games behind," said Sweeny.
He asserts that there is a disconnect between the technical needs of current generation games when compared to current generation hardware. He cites integrated graphics as one of the biggest offenders to PC gaming. "Retail stores like Best Buy are selling PC games and PCs with integrated graphics at the same time and they are not talking about the difference. Those machines are good for e-mail, web browsing, watching video. But as far as games go, those machines are just not adequate. It is no surprise that retail PC sales suffer from that. Online is different, because people who go and buy games online already have PCs that can play games. The biggest problem in this space right now is that you cannot go and design a game for a high end PC and downscale it to mainstream PCs. The performance difference between high-end and low-end PC is something like 100x," said Sweeny.
That begs the question; why not just make games more scalable to fit the needs of most computers? According to Sweeny, it's not that simple. "If we go back 10 years ago, the difference between the high end and the lowest end may have been a factor of 10. We could have scaled games between those two. For example, with the first version of Unreal, a resolution of 320x200 was good for software rendering and we were able to scale that up to 1024x768, if you had the GPU power. There is no way we can scale down a game down by a factor of 100, we would just have to design two completely different games. One for low-end and one for high-end."
Sweeny had very harsh words to say about the state of the platform, "PCs are good for anything; just not games... every PC should have a decent graphics card. A PC should be an out-of-the-box workable gaming platform." He went on to explicate his opinion on the matter whilst pointing a finger at Intel, one of the pioneers of integrated graphics. "PC gaming is in a weird position right now. Now, 60% of PCs on the market don't have a workable graphics processor at all. All the Intel integrated graphics are still incapable of running any modern games. So you really have to buy a PC knowing that you're going to play games in order to avoid being stuck with integrated graphics. This is unfortunate, and this is one of main reasons behind the decline of the PC as a gaming platform. That really has endangered high-end PC game sales. In the past, if you bought a game, it would at least work. It might not have been a great experience, but it would always work... Intel's integrated graphics just don't work. I don't think they will ever work."
However not all was doom and gloom with CEO of Epic Games, as Sweeny had these optimistic words to say, "If you look into the past, CPU makers are learning more and more how to take advantage of GPU-like architectures. Internally, they accept larger data and they have wider vector units: CPUs went from a single-threaded product to multiple cores. And who knows, we might find the way to get the software rendering back into fashion. Then, every PC, even the lowest performing ones, will have excellent CPUs. If we could get software rendering going again, that might be just the solution we all need."
With recent and pressing news of the PC Gaming Alliance, a consortium of companies gathered to "provide guidelines to simplify hardware specifications", underway; it will be interesting to see if Epic Games and Intel, both in PCGA, can come together to work out their differences.
ho no I will not be able to play geow1 with better graphic (??) and a 2 in the title.Franko_3
lol, this made me laugh.
i think GoW2 will come on PC, these guys at EPiC are too hungry for money, they're also developing their new engine, so why wouldn't they port gow2 on the PC, they can't do it to PS3... microsoft's the publisher. so PC's the only option. & Wii is weak.
The gaming industries willingness to drop PC version of games, I believe has a lot more to do with difficulties with PC system been non-standard and 'Compatibility' issues this raises, then so called runaway PC piracy.
Console piracy, even on the system's which use a cartridge based interface, piracy is rapidly catching up the PC. Everything in our World is been copied or pirated, even been you isn't completely safe.
