Its a card made for workstations.
Nah, quadros are still there. Tesla is of a higher GPU computing solution than quadros, which are workstation solutions.muirplayer
Tesla's for NASA and scientists.
So why doesn't everyone that was going to buy this card (that needs it for whatever it's intended for), buy a much cheaper, but still, more advanced new card?

Because those cards have advanced physics and better multitasking.

The main difference between the two types of cards is quite simple. Precision.
The more expensive workstation-esque cards will render much slower but will do so to within an insanely small margin of error (I.E. absolutely no "jaggies", bad textures, poor texture quality).
The cards that are made for gaming have a much larger margin for error meaning that they can render fast and it still looks good, but there may me minor flaws that most people can't even distinguish.
