It's not too late, it's the perfect time with Cataclysm (they completely redesigned the old content and the community is bigger than ever), even tho it has a lot of annoying limitations you should try the trial, if you're having fun with that, but if those limitations make it frustrating then just buy WoW if you still find it, shouldn't be more than 10$ because it also gets TBC for free if not then the battlechest should be available for around 15$ (if you don't buy from the first store you see, they're around 25$ iirc standard) and play that 1 month included, see if it's worth going further with more subscriptions, WotLK and Cataclysm in the end.
WoW's community is horrible now. If you start that, prepare to get abuse at end game if you use the looking for group/raid tool and you've only just dinged 85 etc. It's still a good game, the community's just horrible now imo. But it's never too late to start playing WoW, especially since Mists of Pandaria is on it's way. Make a free account first though, you can play as much as you want (up to level 20) and then you can get a feel for the game.
Rift is an excellent MMO, but it's a bit dead (or so i've heard) but none the less I had the trial and absolutely loved it. Can't comment on endgame though, or any level above like level 15 haha.
Yes WoW is worth it, even so late into its life it is still worth playing if you have yet to. If you have never played WoW before, I warn you...it really is all its cracked up to be and more (see what I did there :P). The game really is amazing if you have never played anything like it before. There is so much to do once you get into it you could spend a year playing and barely scratch the surface.
The catch is the community, you will not find a more horrible community anywhere except maybe in online FPS shooters, and even then I think they are pale in comparison. The trick to enjoying WoW, is just finding a good guild that that you can get along with and not letting yourself get caught up in the rampant elitism that plagues many of the players. Just enjoy the game and the world and you will have a good time with it.
good game till level 85. But once you've gone through the content the game turns into more or less item farming and repeating the same dungeons over and over (which is not worth a subscription fee imo).
But before that you have 4K hours of content to enjoy, contrary to what weak personalities state online, people that have no clue what they're doing, they're only just feeding an obsession, not playing a game, WoW is not about end game content or pure PvP, if somebody wants to do that, fine, more power to them, however they have nothing of value to share with people regarding the game WoW, just raid grinding and dungeon grinding, before "that" will be the only thing to do, you have 4K hours of adventures at your disposal and MoP will be released in December with another 1K of content.good game till level 85. If you are worried about people leaving, WoW is a good choice because of its massive community. Throughout WoW's rule, other mmorpgs have tried to claim a spot next to WoW but none have succeeded. Age of Conan, Rift, Aion are examples and even though they were deemed as "failures", they are still up and running. Even Pirates of the Burning Sea is up and running! The point is that these were games that "failed" years ago and they still have an acceptable amount of players. Now imagine WoW with it's massive playerbase, a grand success, it's not going anywhere anytime soon. Even when the time comes when people consider WoW's population as low, it will probably be bigger than many other mmorpgs.
If you want something consistent, a game to feel safe to invest a lot of time in, WoW is a rather good choice. Personally, the biggest issue that I have with WoW is the rather lame way of handling gear. People spend hours and hours, week after week to gain gear that one or two months later become "baddie"-gear, retire for some time and once you come back, your grand and legendary Illidan blades will be replaced by a rubber duck on a stick that you got from a quest that took you five minutes. In that sense, WoW is very inconsistent and one reason why I want all these generic modern themeparks gone from the face of the earth, I just feel as if if all the time I invest just gets reduced to ash, and I sell off my Armor of Awesomeness to the innkeeper for five gold, which is less than what one trivial item from some small crab at higher level gives.
hi guys Suddenly i feel a massive urge to start playing a huge mmo game, well im a 24 years old guy and i have been a pro gamer for as long i can remember, i play all kinds and genres of games and love em all, but never i have been into an mmo game something with a huge scale like WoW or the likes. so what do you think, as of now, is it too late to start playing WoW, i dont wanna get in there and see ppl getting out to other games, specially when new titles are coming like guild wars 2, warhammer 40000 dark millennium . . . what about star wars online, rift and those games, are they good im not sure, and i need help from experienced mmo games, dont worry about systems requirements as i have one hell of a beastly rig (intel i7-2600k OC 5.0ghz, HD7970, 16 gb ram . . . . . . ) so in short i have one of three choices and i need your opinions: 1- start WoW from scratch now ( actually i want to, its just that i feel its too late) 2- wait for Guild wars 2 to come out 3- start another mmo game if there is any good one worth playing (rift, start wars, age of canon . . . . ) gigaghost
id get WoW or play AION when it goes f2p.. id then look to future mmo's like CoS, GW2 or Planetside 2 or somehting as WoW by and large is becoming a community of derelitc elitists. the game is still good but the "casual" and "semi-dedicated" markets, packed up a while ago and headed to newer waters
i personnaly am now in champions online but it takes a special person to get into that game for longer than a few months so i dont recommend it to you tc at this time..
no your right.. WoW is long past her primeHow can it be worth it? If you don't own the game you'd have to buy it with the expansions, which is going to cost you quite a bit, plus $15 a month or so... no, it's not worth it. It's not a good game anyway.

If you don't have a proper gearscore, no reason to play this game.masterdratSounds like you are bitter for being called for sucking, I see alot of people that say this, then go to other mmos and cry that they dont want a dual spec, damage meter lfg tool etc.... because they suck and dont want other players to know, and want to be able to hide it any way they can. When I hit 85 on one of my many toons, I started with the normal dungeons made for my current item level and progressed from there till now where i have raid gear, learn how to play babies, its called progression, people want to get in grps with there **** gear and be dragged tru content and get to roll on gear they didnt really earn

The issue is with people who judge others based on Gearscore alone.
Back when I was gearing up, I had many tanks who tried to get rid of me, because of my low gearscore. Nevermind the fact that I had done that dungeon before with absolutely no problems. Damage/Healing meters are fine, Gearscore on the other hand.
No, for the love of god no. WoW is a cesspool, wait for GW2 or something else. Ever since Cataclysm I have only played like 2 months out of the last 12+, the game has gone down hill quite a bit. The elitists/hardcores have so many metrics with which to brow beat you now it's like playing with Dr. House in half the groups. LFR is just a mad scramble for who can roll on EVERY ITEM that drops and then vendor it or hold it hostage for something they want. You will save yourself a major disappointment if you stay away from WoW in it's current state.SerOlmyGotta agree on something: the community, despite being active, it's at its worst right now.

OP, you could try Tera online when it comes out this May. Go to twitch.tv and check out Reap00 streaming the BETA right now!
Who cares if GW2 doesn't beat WoW... I don't like WoW, but thats me. I'll still be playing Guild Wars 2 and hopefully enjoying it immensely. As far as Aion is concerned I think it is only free to play in Europe, not in US.It is the best MMO ever and it won't be beaten by Guildwars 2.

NOTHING, NOTHING will beat WoW EVER. That's nearly a fact.
WoW came along where MMOs were just taking off and had the luck of captivating the audience and making it accessible to the masses. It also came right at the time where Internet was getting popular and MMOs were also becoming more popular.
The game is great, no doubt about that, but a lot of factors made it even more popular.
These days, MMOs are so common and there are so many that it's hard to stand out and own the market. Not saying MMOs won't get better than WoW, cause they will. Even SWTOR does things better right now.
Just the whole revolution that was WoW will probably only be met with Titan, but not even then I believe.

I dont believe that is the reason, Another game can beat wow, people are hungry for it, that game just hasnt came yet, and no it is not swtor. Wow is still king because it is still the best, everyone is releasing wow clones, that dont improve on wow, they copy and leave features out. It really is annoying to me that crappy developers think it is ok to copy something, yet release it with less features and polish, and leave it feeling like a unfinished copy. pathetic really .[QUOTE="FelipeInside"][QUOTE="GPAddict"] Who cares if GW2 doesn't beat WoW... Did you play WoW at release? you think it had the same polish and features as now? Nope Sir.I am not even going to recommend SWTOR to my worst enemy, biggest waste of money in a long time for me. Got to 50 and unsubbed a day after, its unbelieveably grindy at max level and it felt like there was nothing to do but grind PVP for gear or try to get into groups that take ******* ages to make, not to mention I was one of the early ones to hit 50 and people were already asking for Epic gear in Heroics, its a joke. WoW is amazing and there is a ton to do, the community is huge, everyone can raid now and the game has been refined to be almost perfect.V4LENT1NEI see you didn't mention the story in any part of your paragraph...

You can wait for GW2 but it may not come out till December or early next year. Personally I would play the WoW trial (or any of the other MMO trials) and maybe even look into the F2P MMO options. It won't cost you a cent to try them, will give you an idea of what you like and kill a decent amount of time while you are at it.

Incorrect I do not play the game and I'm actually a great social player that likes to have fun with others (reason why I avoid doing what you suggest), I do however have bad news for you, you are actually the kind of people you're talking about, the butthurt kind, because I know you're not insinuating that WoW's MMO elements = 5 man dungeon grinding, 10 man raids or 25 and the same for PvP with the regular AV, right? because that would be more than stupid, almost retarded (nobody is an actual Blizz hater unless they go full retard). Before you give opinions about games I suggest you actually play them, before making a fool of yourself.[QUOTE="masterdrat"] Wow before 85 is a mediocre single player game with outdated graphics at best. The rest is just a voiced option to kill X or retrieve Y, SWTOR is beginning to fail hard right now, bottom line is, the worlds feel empty, dead, and boring. End game content is a joke. A half assed cheesy story can not save that. The story's I have played all would be laughed at ib a regular rpg.
