Let me start this disccusion by telling you guys, my fellow gamspotters, how saddened I am becuase of what happened to the Diablo franchise. I feel like most us, as seen on various topics and forums, have received a huge blow to one of our main PC gaming pillars. The diablo series has always been a topic of discussion among pc gamers everywhere. I cant recall one conversation with a fellow Pc gamer where the game Diablo wasnt mentioned. I can go on and on about the flaws of Diablo 3, the the one and only thing that saddens me is how they turned the Diablo franchise into a pre WoW appetizer. I truly believe that blizzard made this game not thinking about Diablo but thinking on how to increase their WoW subscriptions. They took a brand that meant truly something to a community and destroyed it for their own gain. I am currenltly replaying Diablo 2, usually when my internet is giving me **** or tuesday mornings when D3 servers are under maintnance. It impresses me how Diablo 2 destroys D3 in every aspect. What happened to our once great Diablo atmosphere?? As a fellow gamespotter wrote,

'' It feels like they hired a bunch of sophomore liberal arts students to do the writing. It's forced, cliche, uninteresting, and does a mostly awful job of conveying any kind of hellish tone. You feel like you're playing through an action cartoon for 12 year olds rather than battling some kind of cunning, ancient darkness''

Now I know some of you are going to tell me to shut up, or to go write this on my blog or whatever. But for the old diablo fanbase I am sure that they are saddened with what happened to the Diablo series.

Did you seriously put stars instead of F in the title?

Also nothing happened to Blizzard. You just got older and more cynical.

Of course they did. They just took a small portion of their WoW staff and made D3.

Some of them went on to make torchlight which apparently is good, I thought it was complete dog sh!t though.

There definitely has been a huge dip in quality in Blizzard games since WoW. There are better game developers to praise now :P

All the game needs is bold-lined edges and you'd have a cell-shaded game. How's that not cartoonish?

I don't hate the game, its just not a Diablo game. Its an excuse of a release by blizzard in order to capitalize on something that meant a great deal to thousands of gamers.

It is a diablo game. It's the direction blizzard wanted to go in, meaning it's 100% a diablo game.

This, people saying it's not Diablo are delusional. Omg wrhwofheiowfhaiohfoi fit no Diablo cuz I say so, it's as Diablo as it can be, you're not into the genre anymore, get over it.

Blizzard has only made one game I did not like and that was WOW.

D3 is alot of fun and while not perfect it still very much feels like a Daiblo game to me. It will be interesting to see what they do with an expansion pack for D3, as D2 had a great expansion pack and didnt become a great game for me until that expansion pack came out.

Loved Warcraft1 and 2, enjoyed Warcraft3, enjoyed starcraft1/2, Loved D1/2 and have over 140 hours on D3, enjoying that to.

WOW was just not my thing, I ended up buyign all the expansions and giving it a real go a few times, but it was just not enjoyable to me.

They screwed up. They screwed up big time. Ive never felt such a big WTF moment in my life. Here I thought they would come through for us in some way and instead they screw up the game, get too greedy and tarnish their names. Is it redeemable? Of course, but they need to do something fast before it get harder. I guess the difference here is the teams within Blizzard working on each title. I was very happy with Starcraft 2 and look forward to Heart of the Swarm but they better get themselves together and makes things right cuz Im having a hard time trusting them right now. They've just been pulling too much crap lately and it makes no sense when they were so respectable before.

With exception of the poor performance during launch, they havent done anything notably wrong with Diablo 3.

THIS. I am seriously hoping that a massive overhaul patch will be released that will transform D3 into a true Diablo game. Or like Elann and Kozzy said, an expansion, but not any common expansion. It has to be major and bring back what the true Diablo players expected.

I mean, dont get me wrong. I was excited for the game, I preordered the game, I played through some of the game, and then I couldnt really feel it anymore. The story IS good, the gameplay IS good, the game IS alive and the game IS beautiful. But that doesnt mean that they succeeded in giving us a proper game or that they are going about their business properly. Yes, we gamers do feel entitled but we do pay for out games and with the game always online (which I dont have a problem with) we deserve some sort of consistency. We dont need patches that force us to buy items or that raise repair costs to the point where it screws half the hardcore players. I absolutely loved Diablo 2 and for some freakin reason cant get the same feeling I did before and it isnt even nostalgia. lol. I played D2 only 1-2 years ago one summer. I didnt even think Id like it. Haha. My problem is just that Blizzard has been making some awfully stupid decisions as of late. I love their games and want to have faith in them again but they need to pick it up and stop trying SO damn hard to control the AH when they should be releasing PvP and improving the SP rather than making it so difficult for the players to enjoy without feeling as tho they are cattle be herding into a pen to be milked for Auction House money.

On the other hand Azmodan reminds me of Dr. Doofenshmirtz in the sense that they both like to tell there plans. Hey, at least the Doc does it on purpose to make it funny while Azmodan seems dead serious. so much for the "master tactician". huh?

"Aren't you thankful"

That quote alone has become infamous in Diablo 3 and shows the sad state it is in, They nerf every f-ing thing in the game because it is popular and say we should be thankful ONLY ATTACK SPEED GOT NERFED!(##(#!&&*$

It is a sad state, if this was not Diablo people would not put up with the insane crap blizzard puts on its players

The game doesnt feel as dark or gothic as the first two and the writing for some of the characters is terrible but I did have a good time with the game until I got to level 60. I thought that the RMAH was going to be an option for people who like to pay for gear instead of farming but I was mistaken. My biggest mistake in playing D3 was that I thought I was going to have more fun when I hit level 60. I enjoy farming for loot but at a certain point you get sick of never seeing any helpful gear.

After farming inferno for a few weeks it is much more fun for me to play Diablo 2 or Torchlight. I wouldnt hesitate to start playing D3 again though if they managed to fix the loot.

I'd much rather take Diablo 3's artstyle over Diablo 1 and 2's. I don't get what you guys see in those games. They look visually boring.

They changed the game..Im enjoying it still..The online crap is garbage..The amha is a good idea but what they did is this..Make players buy weapons instead of farming them.Changes the face of the game entirely..Instead of finding good weapons an making them great like in d1 and d2..They have dumbed them down an forced you to buy on the market..The market is a good idea how ever dont like this idea..Ive been playing every day since launch..My brother finds two legends ive yet to find one..Even play more than him..So i launched d2 the other day 20 hours in guess what found a legendary..There is some thing off about diablo 3 that is different and i cant put my thumb on it as of right now..

Im looking forward to torchlight 2..Also borderlands 2.They will be much better purchases for myself im sure..

Diablo 3 was a huge disappointment for me. If a Daiblo 4 would come out, I would have very low expectations as a result. Sadly, all good things must come to an end.

The tried to combine D2 and WoW. Just didn't work out that well. I don't think the devs completely understand why people play ARPG.

Surprised nobody has posted a picture of Bobby Kotick yet. I like Diablo 3, it's fun enough and I've pretty much gotten my moneys worth with one character. Still come across a few new quests after 50 hours which is nice. I do wonder if the game would be more carrot and less stick if it was truly single player with no auction house.

Eh, Blizzard started going downhill before Activision. It all started with WoW... And Bioware is better now, they were the best in 1998-2001, 2002-2006 for Bioware was pretty crappy, there only "amazing" game was KOTOR, Jade Empire and NWN were meh. In my eyes they started getting amazing, top-tier again with Mass Effect 1 in 2007 and solidified it with Dragon Ahe: Orgins in 2009, they went downhill with DA2 but redeemed themselves a bit with ME3 which was still a great game even with the ending.

You do realize DA:O came out while EA owned Bioware, right? And ME2 was better than ME1, and ME2 was released when EA had bioware.

Actually, it was a merger between Vivendi Games and Activision. Activision is the majority shareholder. Vivendi has the chairman position and Bobby Kotick became CEO of Activision Blizzard. Both are separate entities. Meaning, Activision doesn't have to carry any Blizzard name on their products and visa versa. As a result, Sierra was ceased operation because it didn't meet Activision's "standards" as part of the merger deal. All rights from that studio went to Activision.

blizzard dont really care if a small minority of hardcore gamers hate them. They just sold 6.5 million copies of D3. Thats a huge achievement for a PC game. They dont care if you think their artistic integrity is in the crapper.

I think they started making games that appeal to the lowest common denominator to ensure sales rather than worrying about if they're actually making a fun game. And I don't think it was much of a mistake, either. People love blizzard so much that even gamers who aren't casual babies will convince themselves that games like Diablo 3 are great because to even question the quality of a blizzard game to those people is like zeb yokel from texas questioning baby jesus.

blizzard dont really care if a small minority of hardcore gamers hate them. They just sold 6.5 million copies of D3. Thats a huge achievement for a PC game. They dont care if you think their artistic integrity is in the crapper. bonafidetk
... The "hardcore" gamers of Blizzard are bonafide crack addicts.. I remember in another thread the guy was saying the game isn't worth it because he spent supposedly 250 hours on the game in less than a month.. Thats over 8 hours a day.. Your going to burn your self on any thing.. Hardcore for me when it comes to anything Blizzard is some one who will never be pleased, who will consistently say that everything in the past was better with the state of the game or numerous other things..

Furthermore cartoony? The game is more graphic and the characters are no more overdone than the characters of Diablo 2.. Oh no you guys were right Diablo 2 spews dark realism with barbarians leaping across the screen, whirlwinding.. And furthermore Diablo 2's storytelling was quite awful as well outside of the cutscenes, these games were never story deep.. The only thing story wise I did feel was poorly done was the ending, D2's vanilla ending was far cooler with Baal revealing himself.. The main problem with Diablo 3 is the fact they built it like a MMO in progression it feels like.. Legendaries and set items are pretty much worthless, and worse of all they are rare to the point you will never see them in numerous playthroughs.. They should have went exactly with 1.10 D2 standard of being attainable but hard to get really good ones.. In the end of the day with the flaws such as that I really can't complain about the game overall, I was still able to spend over 100 hours on it before I needed a break.. Which is well worth it. The game really feels like it has the exact same problems of Diablo 2 at launch, bad uniques and set items that rarely ever dropped.. Not a really fleshed out talent system with broken or useless skills.. The only thing abou that though is Blizzard will fix this so I am looking foward to the changes down the road for it when its on the back burner for now..

No I was mostly talking about the graphics that some say look like cartoon or for 12 old.

Except for the fact that Diablo 2 was never a complex or deep/difficult game to begin with.. The only "difficulty" the game had was tons of broken or weak talents that the game never told you about forcing you to start over due to gimped characters.. That is not good design or hardcore, not suggesting Diablo 3 is some how the golden standard, it isn't.. But I find it amusing that points like this are being brought up for the Diablo series..

Did anyone even question if blizzard is a good dev? WoW wasnt even made to be fun it was made to waste your time.

the fact that you expected an MMO to be anything other than a timesink makes me wonder about your ability to think
