So there has been a lot of news about the Eve Developers doing all this horrible stuff and then it was released this week that Eve and Dust, the devs other game, will be in a combined universe. Now I Know Eve is a Space MMO and there is combat and trading and all that but its an MMO. So is the combat aim assit or aim for yourself? Is the trading hard or confusing? Is it worthwhile actually getting Eve? What ausience is it aimed at and will someone like me who has pretty much only played Valve and Bethesda games like this? Thanks guys!

PS: I don't really want to download the 14 day trial to then have wasted the download because its not good.

It's probably the most ambitious and interesting game ive come across; just reading about it is always interesting - It's a vision of what games could be. It's not a traditional MMO, if you treat it like one you'll be chewed up and spat out. It's focused on freedom - freedom to even metagame into scamming, spying, scheming, dirty tactics and corruption. I got it on Steam for $10 think it's worth it just to check it out for abit to see what it's like, even if you dont really get into the game for that long. I felt like this happy tourist while playing it, or exploring it for that matter.

Combat: Its all based on your characters skills. You dont aim. You get skills that allow you to lock onto more targets. You have guns, lasers, missiles and so on. You "lock" on to a target then you fire all the lazors or well its not 100% like that. Different things have their own range requirements, they might have something that make your attacks weaker against him. So its all about planning ahead. Trading is well... I guess it depends on how much you understand of economy and stuff like that. Its charts and charts of data with things being priced differently from area to area so you could make a living as a pure trader or cargo transporter. I guess you could say that Eve's system is the most advanced one on the market as everything is player made. No idea if you will like it or not. Its a very "niche" game. I find it fun but it take ALOT of time depending on how you want to play. For example if you want to play as a trader, miner, cargo transporter be ready to have a high time spent requirement. While if you are mostly going for pvp / missions and so on you can just play whenever you want to. Beside that... There are a few general rules: Join a corp (kinda like a guild / squad / clan or whatever) Dont trust anyone... EVER. Remember that everyone is out to get you (yes dont even trust the corp 100%) Remember to read most of the "pop up" windows and dont just press "next" some players like to gank new players by tricking them into opening things that they are not allowed to open. If you die everything you have will go poof so be careful. Try to avoid low security zones as its a large chance that you will be ganked there (unless you go with alot of corp members). Anyway try the trial ;)

KalDurenik said everything there is to say, as for you and the game, I'd say it's definitely not a game you'll enjoy considering what you just said, space simulators aren't exactly the most lively games compared to games like what Valve and Beth make.

its a space sim but its not a flight sim if that makes sense. you wont be getting in any first person dogfights. the leveling system is pretty interesting. you set skills for training and they level up in real time whether you are playing or not. these skills allow you to use different ships, weapons, crafting, etc. this game as a whole is VERY complicated.

Download the trial and try it out.

I did, but only played it for like a few hours, cause it takes a lot of "dedication".

You really have to spend a lot of hours reading and learning about how different things work.

And besides, its very slow-paced. Not necessarily a bad thing.

I played the trial. Found it to be very uneventful and did not like it at all.

It depends on what you mean by "uneventful" , you really can't expect to jump right into the pvp action or incursions just after the trial.I myself just upgraded my trial from 7 months ago and i'm steadily getting bigger/better ships.

I like to compare Eve's combat mechanic with wow's even though it's MUCH more complicated it's still the same concept , you lock onto a target and then each ship takes "turns" in damaging each other( much like an auto-attack but player controlled).

It's a good game, i recommend it.

its a pretty good game but if there was a manual for it, it would be longer than the bible.
