hl2.exe is the main executable for Valve-made Source-based games. If that can't run, you can't play. What does the error say, exactly?

It's impossible to tell you what is generating that error, because we need more information. Whats your os? Are your drivers up to date? System specs?

I'm not smart enough to guess what the problem might be from that. But if you post it anyway maybe someone else may be able to tell you.

I would suggest checking the Steam support articles for any known incompatibilities with software you run.

Also, always be sure to turn off the "always on" components of anti-spy/malware tools and antivirus tools before you fire up a game. I generally suggest exiting all active programs that you are not actually using. Just go through your System Tray and right-click > Exit everything you are sure you don't need. They'll come back when you restart your computer.

Could you play the games before you updated drivers? If so, just roll back the drivers or look for a previous version online. If you just installed the game you can always try re installing. I have had a steam game scew up before while installing and was fixed by re installing. Like someone said above try closing any virus/spyware protection before starting the game. Do you have problems running any other programs or games? If so it could be a bigger problem. You've got the right hardware so unless something is malfunctioning it is a software problem. I would recommend asking steam support and giving them the data report. I honestly don't know what your problem is, but I think my suggestions are worth a shot.

I usually get that message when I quit playing TF2 or any valve game. Idk why it happens.
