I heard all these comments from ppl saying that the witcher demolishes oblivion. So i went out and bought the witcher and found it to be a horibly boring game. First few quests were kinda interesting and fun but then it just got really lame. Hmmm where to being...

the fighting system is just down right lame and childs play. CLick once to start the attack, click again to do combo, click once more to do the final combo...

The evading moves r also really frustrating to use. THey will never work when u want them to. Doubel tap the arrow keys to roll of jump to that side but they never seem to work when ur acctually in need of them, when ur fighting with the enemy.

The lack of different looking npc's r very confusing. exactly the same looking person but with a different name.

Damn am i sick of the bugs in this game. A quest will say to talk to this guy about sumthing but when u get to the guy u wont be able to talk to him about that certain quest. I got so frustrated cuz of this that i just quit this game. Yes i did get the 1.2 patch but every hour of so the game just seems to randomly freeze.

And wtf is the point of having sex with whores and stuff and swearing in this game?

I wasnt a big fan of oblivion either but i have to say that the witcher is no way near as good as oblivion.

I have nothing against the swearing, probably the first game i acctually played where they dont bleep out the swears. But what the hell is up with the sex scenes at random places. The developers must be hella horny of sumthing.

Witcher is almost a JRPG.

I agree with you on the core of your post. The details are...secondaries. :)

you can begin by learning how to spell before criticizing a game made by your intellectual superiors.

the fighting system is just down right lame and childs play. CLick once to start the attack, click again to do combo, click once more to do the final combo...
how is this any different from Oblivions combat which is attack left mouse button and right to block. Oh right here theres certain techniques you can preform like decapitation and gutting..

The evading moves r also really frustrating to use. THey will never work when u want them to. Doubel tap the arrow keys to roll of jump to that side but they never seem to work when ur acctually in need of them, when ur fighting with the enemy.
the game was too easy anyway so I never seemed to find those vital for gameplay. You dont need to rely on any of those doubletap moves to beat the game, your having a hard time lower the difficulty setting.

The lack of different looking npc's r very confusing. exactly the same looking person but with a different name.
Maybe you should use the map to remember where you are with certain npcs, and try learning names instead of relying on visuals all the time.

Damn am i sick of the bugs in this game. A quest will say to talk to this guy about sumthing but when u get to the guy u wont be able to talk to him about that certain quest. try a walkthrough

And wtf is the point of having sex with whores and stuff and swearing in this game?
whats the point of playing the game?

I wasnt a big fan of oblivion either but i have to say that the witcher is no way near as good as oblivion.
thats just your feeble opinion.

I have nothing against the swearing, probably the first game i acctually played where they dont bleep out the swears. But what the hell is up with the sex scenes at random places. The developers must be hella horny of sumthing.
its based off a book and thats the way the character is.

The Witcher was undeniably a good game. Sure its unstable but aside from that none of your complaints hold any water.

I havn't played the Witcher yet but it can't be worse than Oblivions stablitiy.. i can't play for more than 10 minutes without a blue screen or the game crashing to desktop (even with trying multiple patches).. surely the Witcher is optimised a bit better.

Show me an RPG that has combat which isn't all about a few simple clicks. Baldur's gate. Fallout. Sure, there's some thought in those games, but it's still a few simple clicks. The Witcher is an action RPG, and should be treated as such. It's like complaining that Diablo 2 has a basic combat mechanic.

The evading moves r also really frustrating to use. THey will never work when u want them to. Doubel tap the arrow keys to roll of jump to that side but they never seem to work when ur acctually in need of them, when ur fighting with the enemy.jayjayman

So, first the combat is too easy and now it's too hard? It admittedly takes some getting used to, but it certainly can be mastered.

The lack of different looking npc's r very confusing. exactly the same looking person but with a different name.jayjayman

It happens in all games. Model-makers don't have time to build five hundred different characters. All games use a pretty limited number of npc models. No matter the genre. It may be more noticable in RPGs, but all you have to do is concntrate a little harder. That's what RPGs are, usually. Thinking and reading.

Damn am i sick of the bugs in this game. A quest will say to talk to this guy about sumthing but when u get to the guy u wont be able to talk to him about that certain quest. I got so frustrated cuz of this that i just quit this game. Yes i did get the 1.2 patch but every hour of so the game just seems to randomly freeze.jayjayman

I played unpatched and experienced zero bugs.

And wtf is the point of having sex with whores and stuff and swearing in this game?jayjayman

Sex and language is right out, but violence is fine? You must be american. Look, it's contextual. He's a good looking guy, and he kills monsters for a living. He's also famous (or at least well known and well respected). He's bound to have a lot of sex. So what if we get to see it? It may be a little childish in its approach, but I don't think its content is anything to take issue with. As for the swearing, people swear constantly in real life. They may have gone a little overboard, but I think not having swearing in dialogue is like not having blood with violence. They just go together.

I wasnt a big fan of oblivion either but i have to say that the witcher is no way near as good as oblivion.jayjayman

I think Oblivion is an amazing game, but I think it's awful as a roleplaying game - in fact, I don't think it is a roleplaying game. So I'm a little hesitant to even compare them unless I have to.

I have nothing against the swearing, probably the first game i acctually played where they dont bleep out the swears. But what the hell is up with the sex scenes at random places. The developers must be hella horny of sumthing.

jayjayman

The Witcher is based on a series of novels by a Polish writer named Andrej Sapkowski. He's the horny one. But I don't have an issue with sex scenes. Even if they are a little childish. Like I said about, he's a good looking guy and he kills monsters for a living. Women eat that up.

I never realised you were a woman. So, you like monster hunters, huh?

Because, you know, just the other day I was hunting some monsters. Maybe you'd like to, uh... you know... uh... Hold on. Let me go and play The Witcher again and find out what he says. I'm not quite as suave as he is.

The fighting system is better than most other RPGs.
Think about this - in Baldur's Gate (and all of those infinity engine games), you clicked once to start an automatic battle. That's all that you do - the characters will then fight until somebody dies. It was boring.
In Diablo, every single click accounted for a single attack. It was repetitive.

In the Witcher, each click causes a string of attacks, which prevents it from being boring like Baldurs Gate, and requires far less mindless clicking, like Diablo.
Sure, it's not perfect, but it's one of the better combat systems in an isometric RPG. It could have been a lot worse.

The evading moves r also really frustrating to use. THey will never work when u want them to. Doubel tap the arrow keys to roll of jump to that side but they never seem to work when ur acctually in need of them, when ur fighting with the enemy.jayjayman

The evading moves work fine, although you don't really need them unless you're trying to line up some enemies for a spell (or trying to jump to a stunned/knocked-down enemy).

Anyway, I would say that The Witcher was the best fantasy RPG since BG2, but it's a game that you either love or hate.

You guys are funny. A guy is piss to have waste $60 on a game he thinks lack a big time. He comes, asking why Gamespot rate it with 8.5, and all you can do is be harsh to him?

The guy expect a RPG. He got a JRPG-action game. He is definitely right to be angry.

Uh...how is The Witcher a JRPG?

There's more role-playing in it than the last three Bioware games combined.

Do you even know what a JRPG is? Let me give you clear-cut examples of JRPGs. Final Fantasy, Shin Megami Tensei, Chrono Cross, Chrono trigger, Dragon Quest.

Can you honestly say that The Witcher plays out like those games I mentioned? And I mean in terms of gameplay mechanics, story, dialogue and the like.

I heard all these comments from ppl saying that the witcher demolishes oblivion. So i went out and bought the witcher and found it to be a horibly boring game. First few quests were kinda interesting and fun but then it just got really lame. Hmmm where to being...

jayjayman

Comparing Oblivion with the Witcher is like comparing apples and oranges. They are different games what you expect from Oblivion. If you want something close to Oblivion that just came out recently, consider Two Worlds.

Oblivion is rather a huge sandbox game... something like GTA but with horses, than a RPG game...

Stats and classes dont make an RPG, there are lots of other games with stats and classes like fps and rts games... fantasy setting couldbe but RPG's in definition shouldbe rather a story driven games where player role play a character... Oblivion is in some way RPG but it has very little from real roleplaying: story is short and not interesting and the whole game is based rather on world exploring than story...

ps. sorry for my bad english :(

Short? That game is supposed to last for hours and hours boyo. Just because its "not interesting" and has "world exploring" doesn't mean its not an RPG...yeesh...

Jasper's Royal Plumber Game! Based on our very own Jasper here on Gamespot! In a fictional world the young tacker waved goodbye to his Gamespot comrades! A grand ball was held for his farewell! It is a FPS so we see from his eyes people gathering around the steam train as we wave goodbye! It is a powerful moment in the opening of the game!

He then ventures out to find a job as you guessed it: a Plumber! You can increase your melee skills to get a "hands on" feel for your work.

Since you are quite seasoned and well old you'll have to rest frequently though! You're a war veteran afterall.

While you can acquire new weapons include a plunger to wack unpaying customers! Or your walking stick which doubles as a sword to scare away street punk kids! Sub quests include finding the neighbours cat and then charging them a ridiculous price for the hours you spent looking for it! Why not charm your customers! Jasper is a man of great wit and uhh intelligence! Coaxing them will allow you to charge them more for fixing their plumbing! Its a dirty job but a hell of a game! JasperRussell of Gamespot would be proud!!

ssshhhh, it's only in Beta! And it's actually going to be called COD7: The crisis of the Half Life Witcher. Or as a package deal included in the 'Dark Orange Box'

yeah I still haven't played it for the same reason, but I really want to!!!!! I've decided I'm going to like it regardless. well unless it's really bad, but I'm not going to let technical glitches or a bit of dodgey voice acting spoil it for me. is that the gripes. Maybe I should read the original post. Noooooo. wait don't tell me (closes eyes and ears) ignorance is bliss - I still have a chance of enjoying it!

You post that in every Witcher thread, and every time we explain to you that: a) he barely got past the tutorial - making his first impression inaccurate - and b) he hates all RPGs - making his first impression biased.

Also, don't call it a review - Yahtzee simply calls it a first impression, not a proper review.

I have nothing against the swearing, probably the first game i acctually played where they dont bleep out the swears. But what the hell is up with the sex scenes at random places. The developers must be hella horny of sumthing.

[QUOTE="AngelB1ack"]I hate to say it but... I told you so. This review hit the nail square on the head. The WitcherPlaneforger

You post that in every Witcher thread, and every time we explain to you that: a) he barely got past the tutorial - making his first impression inaccurate - and b) he hates all RPGs - making his first impression biased.

Also, don't call it a review - Yahtzee simply calls it a first impression, not a proper review.

yathzee never did real reviews, he does it for the "lulz", try to find good arguments, etc, in his 3 minutes reviews, you can count them on one hand. That australian's funny, not accurate, point.

Wait so you didnt like The Witcher? hmmmm what is wrong with people these days?

You cant appreciate a good game when it comes out, all you want to do is turn a positive experiance into a negative experiance to try and stand out from the crowd and be different.

We dont need you to tell us why you hated the game or why it sucks, people can make up their own mind, and looking in this thread much more poeple enjoyed The Witcher rather than hated it.

Get over yourself.

Short? That game is supposed to last for hours and hours boyo. Just because its "not interesting" and has "world exploring" doesn't mean its not an RPG...yeesh...

"Here's an argument I prepared earlier"...*shakes head*

biggest_loser

Ok... but what after the short STORY (not the GAME because I believe it could last for ages playing it)? There isn't almost nothing to do except map exploring and some minor quests...

ps. To the topic: in fact most of the witchers haters are ME/console fanboys or they simply never played old school rpgs...

If so then you should try another game genre than RPG's, because RPG's are all about this... Try to shoot something... ;)
