I have played Albion Prelude and I must say it is quite the game. It's really really fun after you get to know the game, which is very hard because of the HORRIBLE start it gives you. You are practically just put into space and don't really know what to do next :p Great game, no doubt the next one in the series will be more intriguing.
The X series have pretty much been the only good space games since Freelancer. We are seeing a bit of a resurgence of the genre after the huge success of the Star Citizen crowd funding campaign.
