Ive been wondering if its worth upgrading from a X4 955 to a X6 1055T, basically I can get it for very cheap.

Ive been digging through numerous websites, and they all say, that the 1055T is compared to a I5-750, but the strange thing is, that the upcoming (anyone know approx date?) 1075T will be compared or adequately priced against a 920/930

The build isn't for me, but I would just like some info about where the 1055t and 1075t sit, and if they can be overclocked as much as 965BE

The Phenom 2 965 3.4GHz is very close in performance compared to the i5-750, you won't really see an increase in performance in things like games going from a X4 to a X6, only in multi-tasking.

Yeh but then I see that the 1055t is only $5 more than the 965, and it has 2 extra cores. Im just wondering if the 1055t was a better all-round performer, and if it could be OC'ed to 3.4ghz

I think the definition of "multitasking" is abused on this forum.

Don't waste money on a six-core CPU. Unless you do heavy encoding or other workstation activities, you will see no benefit from a six core CPU. Games probably won't be taking advantage of them for about three years so don't bother trying to "future proof" either.

But that's the point, I won't be wasting money, if it was 50-100 more, then I may reconsider, but $5 more for 2 extra cores, im not sure if its worth it or not.

depends what you use your pc for. Besides video/large images and 3d apps like maya/max more cores do nothing. But if you do any of those things mentioned then more cores is always better and can make a difference.

depends on the clock speed. if it's like 3ghz vs 3.4ghz go for the 6 if it's 2.3 vs 3.2 go for the quad.

The new Phenoms can throttle the cores. So they will out perform the x4 clock for clock.

X6 is it then, Im fairly sure it will outperform a X4 @ 3.4 and should be nipping at the heels of the I7 860/870

Yeh thats the point, I can get it for real cheap, but I have no idea why, the 965 costs $250 AUD whilst the new 1055T costs $255 AUD, I think thats a bargain.

The 1055 does clock at 2.8Ghz and with that overboast or whatever, it goes upto 3.3Ghz

965 is at 3.4Ghz stock, and I doubt 100Mhz is gonna make a difference, and if it does, I may just push it up to 3.4Ghz

this day in age, 100mhz isnt gonna show much difference at all.
