A year and a half ago I ran XP 64 bit and was frustrated by the lack of support for many drivers I needed. I am thinking about getting Vista 32 or 64 bit now. Which one is better for someone who likes to game, play movies and music, and links their comp w/ their Xbox for playback? Thanks.

EDIT: I will have a pretty beefed up system so system reqs is a non issue

You've never actually used a 64-bit version of XP or Vista have you?

No, you need to drive a Lamborghini, a Porche, a Mazerati, a Bugatti and many other high performance super cars to know if a Ferrari is good, just like you have to sample all the OS's 32-bit or 64-bit to know if they are good. Vista x64 is good.

I never said isn't good, but most applications are 32bit and I heard people complain about compatibily issues, thats all...

And no, I don't need to drive the other cars.

Well what defines something as good is subjective. In this case you were using the Ferrari analogy as a rebutal when good was being defined by juxtaposing previous 64-bit OSs to Vista x64. So yes, to make your analogy fit the current argument's definition of "good", you would have to compare it to other supercars.

seeing as Dell, alienware, hp, voodoo and falcon northwest have now got rid of 32bit vista on most of their machines, espically since the i7 core came out. I would say yeah get vista 64bit. Heck i have it and have never ran into a problem. On problem i ever hard about was when u try to run fallout 1 and 2 there will be no sound. there is all ready a fix for that from a goog old gamer, those good folks patched it;. good old gamers carries almost every older game and patches them to for work on new OS'es.

Ok, so all the more reason your arguments and analogy were invalid. Anyway, enough of me criticizing your rhetoric. For those of us who have used Vista x64 you'll find that it is compatible with almost everything. The apps that don't work are usually pretty old or haven't been updated. If you're using the majority of the apps out there, they will work. Incompatibilites are usually limited very specific types of apps, otherwise, wide support.

The ONLY problem I have with Vista 64-bit is with updating my phone. Motorola PC software updates for US cellular won't run under vista 64-bit. Other then that no problems for me.

I think I had a compatibility issue with some GPU overclocking tools in Vista 64 a while back, but pretty much everything else has run smoothly and I haven't booted into XP for a long time.
