I thought 360 dvd drives had special lasers so that they could get the data off of the discs. If so, I fail to see how an OS can allow for these games to work. I would think you'd have to get a secondary dvd drive

Emulated is a far-fetched idea. If it's an Interpreter, instead, it can be possible. While I'd love to play 360 games on a PC, you have to think of the business. Many people won't buy 360s. It probably is just a rumor.

Yea, I could just move everything right into my pc.. I wish online games could stretch across every console. I could abandon the xbox and play on my pc. I could finally play online withe my best friend who has a ps3 and still keep all my xbox friends.

No, some are really bad ports. As for the article, I don't think MS would do this but at the same time they DID merge GFWL and XBOX Live so.....???

I don't see why MS would do this, especially considering no retail computer would be able to use the feature which would surely lead to complaints from technologically illiterate consumers who can't understand why their Compaq with its integrated graphics chip and celeron CPU can't run their 360 games. Not to mention the level of piracy would be absolutely hilarious since such a feature would make 360 games even more easily pirated than PC games.

Same here. I hate it when I met someone knew who plays the same kind of games I do but on 360.

True_Sounds

The Xbox uses a standard DVD drive that is the exactly same as the one you have in your PC. I believe the only difference is that Microsoft use a non-standard power connector. So yes PC's can easily read Xbox discs with no problem.

Personally I call bull on this, it is no mean feat to emulate a console. Yes the Xbox 360 is a Dx9 console but the CPU is completely different to the CPU in the PC. Now as much as I love PC's even I find it hard to believe that even the fastest i7 CPU on the planet would be able to emulate a 3 core with 6 threads PowerPC CPU. You just need to look at PS2 emulation which needs a decently hefty PC to emulate a 300mhz CPU.

I get the feeling this rumour is probably a mix up with the fact that MS has said Xbox live is coming to the PC with windows 8.

It depends on the integrated graphics chip e.g. AMD Llano A8 APU and the next AMD Trinity APU.

Unlike DX9 PC, you can mix vertex and pixel shaderinstructions with Xbox 360. Better use DX11 i.e. superset of Xbox 360's DX.

High performance PowerPC-to-X86 was already done on Apple Mactels with Rosetta.

PPE at 3.2Ghz in Xbox 360 runs like PowerPC 970 FX(G5) at 1.6Ghz.

http://www.macintouch.com/reviews/macpro/benchmarks.html

Rosetta benchmarks.

The above Apple Mac Pro uses Intel Core 2 type CPUs. PPE is not a threat to Intel Core i7 Quad Core.

The next Xbox should be DX11 or DX12 and also that on PC, so games will only require a minor tweak to make compatible on the other.

Same here. Keep the console trash on a console. I play PC to have PC games. Multiplatform is bad enough and I hate it and wish it would die. There needs to be MORE separation between 360 and PC, not less.

assuming its true. it would be a very clever move by MS if they did it. the big drive for MS is not selling consoles (the hardware at best makes them buttons) but is getting people signed up and paying for live. the article seems to point out that you need to subscribe to use the ability. so by allowing xbox games on windows also its all win for MS. more devs will subscribe to xbox development which in a round about way means that MS will also be getting licence fees for PC games. more people will sign up to live. thats more people paying 60 quid a year. its another feature to help sell copies of windows 8 (which MS dont sell at a loss). more game sales and game sales on the PC even from games not published MS gives them money. MS manage to get some sort of grip over PC gaming. there will still be an xbox of course...this wont kill off the console business. MS will want to retain a presence in the living room and a console remains the best way to do that. but unlike ninty (who only work on their own platforms) or sony (who are a hardware company first and foremost) its all about the brand and services for MS. if people decide to skip getting a 360 and instead get windows 8 and play xbox that way then MS still see money and still get subscriptions. as for the running of the games...as far as i know all 360 games are tied to the API and are not as closely tied to the hardware as the usual console game. if MS implement the 360 API into windows (something like a 360 version of WINE) and put a few rules in also to manage performance then mst of the work could be done. they may still need to make a seperate executable perhaps so that itll run on X86 hardware (im not sure if 360 games are that hardware agnostic). make it available for subscribers to download and then keep the 360 disc in the drive for everything else. there also going to have to fix some of the bottlenecks and overheads in windows. on the hardware side they may also have to have a cert scheme where hardware and PCs can be declared as 360 capable or something. but yeah....it would be quite a clever move on their part. of course they would still need to take on steam and co and get devs over to live. they would also need to tempt people into subscribing. will the lure of being able to pla 360 games be a big one?

But the thing is we will be able to play it like that 1920x1200 60fps or will be locked at 1280x720 30fps because if this is the case then it is pointless...

It won't work. Most Xbox360 games are already on the PC. And the rumor is that you'll have to pay a monthly fee to be able to play Xbox360 games on Win8. Quit paying the monthly fee and you end up with no way to play your game and likely 60 bucks out of pocket, for no reason. Why even bother? It would be better to just get the PC version of the same game (which do tend to go down in price a lot faster than the console version) and never have to worry about any pay to play, fee. (there is the other small matter of mods. Having L4D2, Fallout 3, Oblivion, Witcher 2 and whatever else all unmoddable, DLC that you have to pay for, and a montly fee for MP? That's just not going to fly in the average PC community.)

Not to mention, in time, the monthly fee is going to far exceed the cost of an Xbox360....

As for mouse and keyboard versus gamepads with FPS games, PC gamers will have an advantage over a game pad, every time.

Oh great. Trade decent ports, for terrible emulated games.

Xbox 360 graphics, No keyboard support, No 60fps, No dedicated servers.

Yea guys, this is totally a great idea..

It's an interesting rumor. On one hand it's hard to imagine that MS would allow the gains they've made in the console market to be put at risk by opening the door to PC-Emulation. On the other hand, if done right, it could be the biggest thing to happen in the video game market in a long time. *IF* MS could / would allow a mid-high end PC to directly double as an Xbox (for example as an extension to MS media center that's already designed around acting as a bridge between traditional PC's and the TV). MS might just be able to annihilate any console competition. Remember that the bulk of the X-Box profits comes from game sales, not from the hardware sales. If MS could continue to secure the profits from the game sales but expand their user base 10-20 times (or more) by allowing Win8 to double as an Xbox. They could quickly create a market situation where there's be very little incentive for costumers to even consider competing products.

pretty good business wise if they do it, a new os is around $150-200 so people would basically be buying a second "console" in the same gen, thats if people actually feel like this is a good incentive

It's an interesting idea, but I kind of disagree with the idea of introducing Xbox 360 capabilities on Windows 8. On one hand, it would be cool to have the option there. It would be cool being able to play games like Fable 2, Bayonetta and Red Dead Redemption on PC. However, I'm kind of worried that this will affect PC gaming in a negative fashion. I want PC games, not **** console ports or Xbox games. I'm worried this will give developers an opportunity to cut more corners.

If I really want to play Xbox 360 games, I would buy an Xbox 360. You know what I mean?

Sure would be nice to have Forza 4 or RDR on PC though.
