I was curious if there is a difference in audio quality between two setups one is : X360 > Insignia 32'' LCD > HTS3565D Or, X360 > HTS3565D. I wanted to use the first setup mentioned as i wouldnt be able to use the headphones on the tv if i used the second setup because for some stupid reason the HTS reciever does not have an headphone jack.

How should i hook them up, i mean by what cables should i use for the best audio quality? Apparently an HDMI connection can increase audio quality or gold plated standard red/white cables, does it really make a difference? Right now my xbox 360 has the OEM gold plated L/R audio cables plugged into the tv, the HTS receiver has two L/R regular silver audio cables plugged into the tv so the TV is the middle man. Is this an Optimal set up?

HDMI will work, Optical is another way of getting good audio. X360 needs to connect direct to your reciever for Dolby, DTS, and etc. because the T.V will only produce analog sound.

I wish it was that easy, if you were to go HDMI from X360 to receiver you will also need a second to go receiver to TV. You could just stay with your component cables or HDMI straight to TV then use the Optical from the X360 to the receiver.

Advice: Stay away from any Name brand HDMI Hype, cheaper costing HDMI will work just as fine because HDMI is a digital signal. Which means it either works or doesn't / it's either on or off.

Well it's a 720p TV so i don't care about HDMI from 360 to TV for the visuals. I just want to get optimal sound quality. So you say i can use an optical cable from the X360 to the receiver and this will provide the best audio apposed to the OEM L/R red and white connectors? Thanks for the help thus far, i will get one of the optical cables and try it out.

EDIT: Apparently my reciever doesnt have an optical input so i guess i could still use the HDMI cable for the sound?

The problem is HDMI is a Video/Audio connection, so I don't know if your X360 will try making the HDMI primary instead of the Component. I never hurts to do a trial and error to see what will work. Also see what you kind of settings you can tweak on the X360 in Audio/Video options. OEM L/R will work, but at the cost of some audio formats. HDMI and Optical will be your two best audio outputs.

Weird to hear that your receiver has a HDMI in, but no optical.

I just researched your setup and all it has for audio input, is a Coaxial Digital. Which I can't imagine you could purchase a setup for your Xbox 360 unless you modified the harness.

The easiest way to get digital audio out of your 360 with your current setup would be to use the component cables to the tv from the 360 (but dont plug in the red/white audio). Then run an optical cable from the 360 to this thing Then the coax from that you your receiver. I'll check back if you have any questions. Hope that helps.

Edit: had to make a link manually
