Hello guys,

Just a quick question regarding xbox360 av cables.

I recently purchased a very nice samsung 37 inch lcd hdtv and want to get the most out the gaming picture from my 360.

Unfortunately my xbox is one of the oldest models and doesn't have a hdmi input like some of the newer ones do.

So I was wondering if I can still get a similar picture with upgraded av component cables, as I would with an hdmi cable? Is the difference over the stock av cables worth it? I don't care if the cables won't upscale dvds. My question solely pertains to gaming.

This is an example product of what I'm looking at:

http://www.amazon.com/Xbox360-Component-Cable-Xbox-360/dp/B000FR49FA/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1254694421&sr=8-11

Thanks in advance!

this might seem rather odd, but here goes: i was playing Fallout 3 and tried a little experiment. I used a hdmi cable and xbox's component video cable. Color reproduction was better on the component video cable. Well, that's my opinion at least.

That is very possible. Component and HDMI should appear equivalent all things being equal except over very long runs (HDMI's weakness). However, on many TV's the Component inputs are better and on some TV's the component inputs are worse. It depends on the scaling chips and process used by the TV. This used to be the norm when HDMI first came out, but alas now many TV's look better with HDMI as cheaper components are being used on many TV's for the component inputs as HDMI has become the new standard.

I'd go HDMI if I were you man...their cheaper and picture quality is superb. Got mine at Newegg.com for about $10. It just depends on how long your cable for the price to go up.

He can't go HDMI as he has the older 360 which had no HDMI output.
