Let me just get this out of the way first, I KNOW that they are in different genres and that they can't really be compared in that way, however, I am stuck in a rut as to which one I want to get.

I can only get one game for now for certain reasons. I was dead set on finally being able to get Guild Wars 2, but then XCOM really peaked my interest.

I guess, the question boils down to which one? I love both genres, but which would you pick and why? Thank you.

Well one is an MMO and probably has more game time attached to it. The other is a single player with multiplayer which means you will get lots of hours out of it as well but totally different game play. You should think about which type of game you see yourself playing and enjoying more. A tactical shooter or a new type of MMO.

... Xcom is not a tactical shooter.. Its Turn Based strategy game dealing with squad combat..

I'd say go with XCOM. I got bored of Guild Wars 2 within 2 weeks of playing. I thought GW1 was alot better.

XCOM is the way to go. It's gameplay is hard to come by, whereas GW2 is a standard MMO fare with tweaks here and there.

I think you'll get more play-time from GW2.

Do you want an SRPG or a MMORPG?

GW2 will definately last longer, and may leave a better impression. However, SRPGs are rare indeed.

As for XCOM, I feel it will not only be outlast by GW2, but also its far deeper and more complex predecessor. Not only that, but I have a feeling the game will be far inferior to Xenonauts, despite Goldhawk having far, far fewer resources.

As for GW2, it is a fresh breath of air, but it is very unrefined. And it might be better to wait a few months.

definitely xcom! all i have to do is wait 2 more days and its mine!!!!!!!!!!

I have to wait 4 more days. Because I happen to live on another continent :(

Futuristic soldiers tactically killing aliens, or fantasy characters killing hostile creatures/players using self-sufficient skillsets? Which sounds more appealing?

I do not regret purchasing GW2 one bit, the game is well designed. But right now I would love to play some XCOM since I've already been into GW2 for about 3 weeks (I love it but I don't love it enough to be attached to it).

You're only deciding between two games, I would say flip a coin.

Get Xcom this week and get GW2 later on, it's well supported and it's not going anywhere.

If I enjoyed mmos, I'd probably get Guild Wars 2. I picked it up a few weeks ago hoping it would get me into mmos and it didn't but man it is one slick and well made game.

I imagine XCOM will be a 90%+ rated game and well worth buying too, but you have to look at how much content you are getting for the money if you can buy only one.

Can't go wrong with either game, but GW2 will offer a lot more hours than X-Com, if bang for your buck is your primary concern.

Go for Xcom. It's the only one of its kind. Nobody makes such games anymore. And there are millions of MMOs you can and will play in the future.

What about Xenonauts?

That game is very X-COMish. But yeah, there are far more mmos out there than games like XCOM.

I ended up getting Guild Wars 2 for 2 reasons. 1) It does provide more bang for my buck. 2) XCOM will be on a steam sale in the future, Guild Wars 2 won't. Now, if people can forward me to the Gamespot guild and stuff, would be most apperciated. :D

Xenonauts is not out yet, so not really an option for the OP.

That dephends ;)

The game hasnt officially launched. But you can easily play it if you prepurchase it. Granted, the game has a fair share of technical issues, but at least the battlescape AI has been added to the game now.
