xfx 8400 gs turbocache

Iv got an xfx 8400 gs turbocache but I was wondering how the turbocache tech works. Its taking 256 mb from my system RAM (which isnt a problem cos I'v got 2.5 GB) but is it working at the same speed as the videocard memory and is it also DDR2? How does it compare in terms of playing games to the on board 256mb?

Im willing to spend around £100 ($200) but im not buying a new pc.

I dunno why the 8400 GS has such a bad rep. I have the xfx version (the best version) and its a good overclocker. Its handled everything iv tried with it on resolutions of 1024 x 768onlow - mediumsettings with no AA. This includes Bioshock and demos of Unreal Tournament 3, World in Conflict and Medal of Honour Airbourne. The only thing it hasnt handled respectably was the lost planet demo. I play most games on my xbox 360 and for the £35 ($70) I spent its an absolute bargain. Il upgrade to the 9 series equivalent when it comes out.

there seems to be a serious lack in good low profile cards. You would think that at least one company would have noticed this and tried to make at least a low profile 8600 gt or the ATI equivalent

dunno about that, wouldn't be hard though so its a possibility. Il hang on with it until I can't play modern games then I'll upgrade.

The cards not as bad as people think. I was just playing the Unreal Tournament 3 demo and I was getting an average fps of 25 on 1024 x 768, both graphics settings on 5 (highest) and no vsync. I noticed there was no options for shadows, AA etc.

I dont mind playing games with a framerate like that, it seemed smooth enough to meconsidering I'm running :

Windows XP Professional

Pentium 4 3GHz with HT tech

2.5 GB 400MHz RAM

and my xfx 8400gs

x1950 pro isn't low profile is it?

im pretty sure thats a typo. go to galaxies website and they say its pci-e, the image shows pci-e and it even says pci-e in the title.comeonthehoops

Yea the 8600 is a rather good card way better then the 8400 you got like It better for gameing think of when the 7800 came out they made a budget type just lower clocked 7600 thats all it is. just lower clocked and stuff.

Im still trying to find a 8600gt in the US. No luck yet.Sprozelth

I've looked about but couldn't find any. Galaxy doesn't seem to have much presence in the USA or in the UK for that matter and the MSI low profile 8600gt is nowhere to be seen

cause he has core 2 duo and 2 gb ddr2 ram. thats why. card is not means everything. ok dude? i have a 8800 ultra but the performance is not quite enough when i force my quad core to run in low clock settings to check how the gpu can perform in a game.

i can run half life 2 episode 1 with all textures, hdr and everything at high with my acer t180 with the nforce 6100 intergrated graphics i just have to run it at 800x600. i have 2gb ddr 2 pc-5300 and a amd athlon x2 4200+ 64bit, cpu and memory do help run a game, a game cant be run on the gpu alone.

I'll get my new case and psu (look for my other thread!!), then I'll transfer my motherboard, hard drive, processor,dvd drive and graphics card into it and get it all set up and running. Then I'll get a new graphics card - maybe some sort of 8600.
