well my set up is as such:

vista 32 bit

XFX 8800gt 512 mb

core 2 duo 3.0 ghz

corsair 4gb ddr2 ram

intel d945gtp motherboard (single pcie slot)

a good example of this 'underperforming' is in crysis.

1280x1024 res, all on high i am only getting an fps range of 22max/15mid/10low. aa is off, no vsync.

i know with this card i should be getting 20fps at the lowest, and 40 at the highest with these settings. I have updated the nvidia drivers, removed all backroud apps, done all the basics etc etc.

are there any other suggestions or possible complications with my setup that i may be unaware of that is hindering my performence? this isnt the only game im noticing underperformence on, but it certaintly is the most noticable (obviously).

thanks

Well, you have 4GB of ram on a 32 bit os, you need a 64 bit os for 4 gigs. Besides that, i dont see anything.

Underperforming? That's more than I'd expect the 8800GT to get at those settings.

yeah :p i realized after i got the card that 4gigs is too much.

but i have looked around and done some research and based on the benchmarks and recorded fps this card was getting in various games (including crysis) this card is underperforming, but i cant see anything wrong with my setup.

Run the crysis GPU benchmark and report your result and giving all the details of the settings applied.

It's Vista & DX10 just by turning off Dx 10 and just running Dx 9 you will double your fps.

You need to right click the Crysis Icon and run in DX9.

well my benchmark fps is painfully low in comparison

it was at 15.27 avg fps, and the benchmark averages ive seen vary anywhere from 28 to 30

...and they are running vista?

do you think it could be my motherboard by any chance?

Listen theres only three things that come to mind that is your problem

1. Bad card out of the box

2. Not enough power (weak psu)

3. You are running in Direct X 10 mode do as the guy above said to do.

Just by running Direct x 9 you will double your framerate, dx 10 sucks with performance.

thanks for the suggestions,

ive tried them all,

running in direct x9 i get maybe 3-5 more fps, still not averaging over 20 fps, which is horrid.

I did my research and the card is regarded as a good card, unless the individual card i have has got some problems. I tested the ram, and messed with different res and went between mid and high settings. I seem to consistently get fps that is high teens to low 20's, and thats even in resoultions of 1024x768 no aa, no vsync, and all mid graphics.

so the only things i can think of that is making my fps horrid is:

1. vista

2. motherboard

3. lack of power...like you said, but i have a 500w power supply, and the card reccomds 450w....

You can have a 850 watt psu and it wont power it correctly as some found out. If the psu has 28A on the 12v rail you should be fine. Motherboard I doubt thats your problem unless it's a PCI- E v1 not 1.1. Vista even with dx 9 it shouldnt run that bad. What was your last graphics card?

Even so his performance shouldnt be that bad. Heck I was running Crysis on a Sempron 3300 with a 7600GS witha mix of medium and low settings with 25 fps average. He may have a bad card too.

I had a gut feeling from the start. I dont think your running C2D. Recheck what processor model you have. I thinking you have a P4 or D.

Hmm no with a pentium D he is very unlikely to do any better at high settings.

you guys are right, its a pentium d 3.0 ghz

however, when playing my system monitor indicates that it isnt maxing out or having any problems running the game. it runs at around 70% of its max processing power. even though it isnt maxing out the processor, would it still be hindering fps and overall performance of the game?

my 12v rail runs at 25a...will this actually slow down my gpus performance? also i havent been able to find out if my pcie is 1 or 1.1, so i should really check that out.

Your power supply is adequate, but you will need a new processor and motherboard. I'd got with anIntel E2180and aGigabyte P35-S3G, and that'll only be $150, not $400. With someCorsair XMS2 DDR2-800memory, you could easily get this processor running at 3.0GHz. That would give you a massive boost in Crysis.

Actually 25amp is enough for an 8800GT.What exactly is the brand of your PSU?

A new mobo,CPU and cooler will cost you only $200.You will HAVE to overclock the CPU otherwise you will need to spend more.

If you do feel like getting a new PSU,then you can get something more than enough for about $60-70.Something like the corsair VX450W or antec earthwatts 430W will be enough.

ok so as for upgrading to a new motherboard, i would like to purchase something that is sli capable, and will be good for a few years as far as upgrades go (cpu mainly), for obvious reasons. I would also like a decent cpu, im willing to overclock, but id prefer not to right off the bat so as to give me room for futher overclocking when i need it most. my budget is around 300$. so does anyone have a couple suggestion based on that criteria?

thanks for all the help everyone, i was really hoping it was the graphics card and not the rest of my comp, but alas it was. oh well.

make sure you have good, fast, low latency memory, that will bottleneck if you got generic memory
