[QUOTE="matte3560"] Yeah, same here. I was honesty expecting AMD to take the performance crown this gen considering how big of a margin they had with their GPU die size compared to Nvidia last gen. Nvidia just keeps pulling the longest straw though. Either way, it should be interesting to see how pricing turns out if the 6970 is in fact on par with the GTX 570.icyseanfitz
I'm baffled as to how AMD would go from 1600 SPs to 1536 for their top-of-the-line single GPU card, regardless of whether or not their new SP design is much more efficient. Why would they need or choose to reduce the number of SPs? Why not crank it up a bit and deliver a massive blow to Nvidia by taking the performance crown? If the 6970 truly does have 1536 SPs, and uses more power than a 5870, this will be very disappointing indeed. Pricing is another issue. If the 6970 is barely on par with a GTX 570, how can they fit both the 6970 and 6950 in between $350 and the $250 6870?
I guess I'll have to wait for real answers.
im thinking that there is something fishy going on with regards to the current info we have, has to be why would you downgrade your high end gpu to 1536 sp's?!? the high end 6970 has to be near the 580 this time because the dual 6990 just isnt going to cut it this round as nvidia are coming out with their own dual solution as well
It's what I said before. I too feel that something ain't right. Makes no sense to downgrade. Except when you're confident that even downgraded, you'll kick the competition where it hurts. The (very early) results seem to indicate that there's indeed some kicking, alas thin air. So, I smell a rat...
