Would asus be aloud to mess around with a 8800GT die? Isn't that like against policy or something?

no they most likely wouldn't, they most take the reference designs and then modify a bit.if there messing with the core then thats basically expensive R&D.[QUOTE="ferret-gamer"][QUOTE="yoyo462001"][QUOTE="ferret-gamer"]get a asus 9800gt ultimate it is a re-branded 8800gts not a 8800gt. and benchmarks prove that it is faster than a 9800gtx. and it is only $150yoyo462001what are you on about?could i see these benchmarks..and anyways the 8800GT will be the new 100 series soon.asus decided to get rid of their 8800gts(g92) and did something with the die and overclocked it and rebranded it as a 9800gt. this is different cause all other 9800gt are rebranded 8800gt, and this gives the asus at least a 20% boost over alll other 9800gt. i can post links because i am using a cell phone, but a place called hardwarecanucks compared the asus ultimate to other 9800gt and a 4850 and 9800gtx. and in their benchmarks it was almost always higher than the 9800gtxwell if that is true then that quite a stupid move for ASUS to do.yep noone nows too much about it so it doesn't sell to well making it cheap. and some people think on the specs the extra stream processors are a typo
The 8800GTS 512MB is the better card - it has more shaders and higher clock speeds. The 9800GT is nothing more than a rebranded 8800GT.RayvinAzn
I agree.
no it wouldn't a 8800gts(more stream processors, faster clocks, higher bandwith, etc) is far superior to a 8800gt, even if the 8800gt was heavily overclocked it would still be about 10% behind a 8800gts and would have a much shorter life span.then if i got the XFX9800GT then oc it could be like the asus
