I don't know much about Pc gaming, but I've finally decided that by mid-January I will be buying one. My friend made me a computer (specs will be at bottum of post) and also bought me Crysis yesterday for my birthday. I decided to look in on the game and dropped into the forums. After reading alot of posts, I found alot of people saying the game runs alot better on XP then Vista.

So my question is which OS should I buy, Vista or XP?

I think Vista looks great. My friend already using that (Vista Home Edition) But as for me, I'm not fully convince about the capabilities of Vista. Its not that is isn't good, since I still have some old softwares that could only at least run at XP, so tha's why I'm not yet giving up to my XP...

But since you're PC has a great specs, I think its not bad to try Vista. But make sure all of your programs can run through Vista...

Ow dear, that is a tough one. Windows XP is easier to hande for a beginning computer game player. Performance wise XP is also better than Vista with SLI in Crysis. So overall your experience will be better with XP. However, Vista has DX10, which in your case is interesting in the future. Moreover NVIDIA & MS are still working hard on fixing Vista game performance, but will Vista overtake anythime soon?

A person called FrenchKiss made some very nice benchmarks to better get a graps of hte situation: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=244531

Just go with Vista there is no reason why you shouldnt, as much as people would like to think otherwise Vista is the future, people bash vista saying that no games work on it or they have performance problems, well think back to when XP was first released it was terrible, Vista is alot more stable than XP was when it was first released.

Vista isfine at the momentand its only going to get better, plus it looks oh so very sexy.

Your rig is similar to mine except for the graphics card - I have 1x Ultra 768 (yep - the beast of beasts). I got XPcauseIgot2GBCosairram. Here's what you gotta think about...Vista has DX10 (personally I cannot see much difference between 9 and 10 to justify it's 'glory') and RAM. XP can only understand 2GB max (ignoring that 3GB bios upgrade etc) however grabbing the 64bit Vista you are the ants pants. What I reckon stick to XP and wait until games need more than 2GB RAM (as your graphics cards in SLI will save the day anyways) and you can actually see huge differences between DX9 and 10. Oh if you want that 'flashy' desktop then that's your call...

For now and having an easier time XP is smarter as vista has some bugs that can be aggrovating to Gamers. I have Vista & XP and I am currently on XP. I have Tried Vista Twice now and have had to change back because of the performance of the Games I currently play just presents problems in vista, constant crashes are the worst part.

2nd just advice. SLI is atotal waste of time & Money. Just get 1 8800 GTX. SLI will never become a standard anytime soon too many designers and publishers just ignore it, for the time being at least. your smarter to get 1 video card. Youll have the ability to SLI because of your motherboard in the future but DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY YET on a technology barely any games actually take advantage of. I can run anygame right now on max settings at 1920 x 1200 with my 1 8800GTX and your setup is just a hair better than mine.
