technically their are no games that really require vista, most (like all 4) have cracks that allow you to play them on XP, the only real reason to get vista is for 64bit gaming.

If, you decide to get Vista, then go with 4GB ram. I have XP on one computer and Vista 32bit on another, I prefer Vista. Vista let's me choose either Dx9 or Dx10. It's a good OS.

i would personally just stick to XP until Windows 7 comes out. Vista is just a stepping stone between xp and W7 so it will be buggy and needs work yet.

I have to tell you, I was very cynical about Vista and wouldn't even try it until very recently. But now I have XP Pro SP3 on one hard drive, and Vista 64-bit on the other.. and I never use XP anymore. I have had such a great experience with Vista that I can't see any reason to use XP right now. Nothing against XP, it's a great OS and it did a great job for years... but Vista is alot better than most people say. At least the 64-bit version that is. Switching to Vista actually fixed a strange sound problem I was having with my X-FI sound card playing Nba 2k9. I have yet to run into a game that I could run on XP, but not on Vista.

-Make sure to have at least 4gb of Ram to run Vista 64-bit!

Most games do have cracks that allow them to run on XP, but you should point out that it allows them to run *poorly*. I would definitely say go for Vista, and just make sure to get 4gb of ram for it. You won't be sorry. Anyone who sits and complains about Vista at this point is not a regular user of the OS.

absolutely, vista is a great os, people that bash it are the people who don't use it, i run it and i love it, the thing is, if you have xp already and it wont cost you anything to install it, i would say go with that, spending 100+ dollars for os when windows 7 is around the corner, well that's your call, i think the advantages of vista are quite obvious, but its your money

XP all the way for me. I have used both and in my opinion I'd stick with XP. Sure Vista is pretty, but with the themes for XP (There are some for VISTA to of course) you can make it look the same or better.

DX10 is the only reason I gave Vista a go and to be honest it's not worth it.

Windows 7 is basically a tweaking of Vista, so if it looks a lot like Vista now, im not sure how much it will be changing. Seeing how young Vista still is, I don't know that they want to do a major interface overhaul already.

They deal with all of the visual stuff later on because the whole point of a Beta is to make sure the product is stable.

Vista isn't as bad as some people make it out to be. It's a pretty OS with some nifty features. I just found it annoyingly slow and bloated, and many of my peripherals (tv tuner, sound card, mouse) are either incompatible or poorly supported, which was why I switched back to XP.
