I recently upgraded my PC to play games courtesy of RedDanDoc as I'd always played games on the XBox. However, the graphics don't render correctly and shadows and lights all either flicker and have parts missing and there's lots of lines which appear stringy. Any text also partly disappers and has lines running off them. I've installed FEAR and STALKER and both games do this, both games require SP2. I have XP Pro SP1, 2GB RAM and Geforce 7900GS. Anyone have any ideas, should I install SP2?amnesiac_radarIt should auto upgrade if not then go to microsoft.com and install it from there.
BTW u should download sp3.
There's no reason NOT to upgrade to SP2/SP3. Not only are they faster, they fix many security vulnerabilities from SP1.

I don't know why people are still using XP anyways, but if you are, I don't see why you wouldn't go to SP3.Maybe they have older rig?as he is still using 7900gs and it does not support Dx10/11(No point to upgrade),although there is no reason to buy Xp with new pc as it will be unsupported very soon.

very soon? it got dropped as of march :P
Thats what i thought, turns i out i got plenty of errors in programs and i games crashing or programs crashing at startup. So its better to upgrade to service pack 3.There's no reason NOT to upgrade to SP2/SP3. Not only are they faster, they fix many security vulnerabilities from SP1.

When I see unupdated XP systems, I think of a pirate.JigglyWiggly_thats what i was thinking. Xp Updates automaticly unless you manually turn off updates. As for the OT most games that come out today that will work on XP will only run if you have service pack 3. if you try and run them with less they either wont work or will work and be really messed up. heck even most games that came out the past few years require service pack 2.

Well i had issues and i heard that sp3 is tricky so i tried sp2. Turns out i got more issues. So back to service pack 3. Also some games requiee service pack 3 like gta iv!!
If XP got dropped in March, care to explain whyI'm still getting updates for it? And why Nvidia is still releasing XP drivers?Threesixtyci
microsoft officially announed there would be no new service packs of dx9 updates or other windows xp associated software. you would only get tiny updates for serch bar, malicious software renoval tool, and fixes deemed necissary. this was in an attempt to cut illegal copies of windows xp off and legit ones aswell (since illegal one cant access the malicious software removal tool unless they suffer os lockouts.
and nivida and ati are simply making dx9 drivers still because theres still people that use it. and until they see a big move out to dx 10 and 11 they probably wont change that either.
