Hey guys, so there have been many threads like this, and there will be more after this but this one is here now so please answer it. So my question would normaly be "I'm a newb RTS/TBSer what should I get?" but this time I have some games I have been looking at that I would like you to compare, plus you can suggest others if you like. So the games I'm looking at are Starcraft 2, Company of Heroes (already have the first and enjoy it but I wiped my HDD and havn't re-installed so I would be looking at CoH:ToV) Frozen Synapse, Dawn of War, any total war game with a good MP, C&C:RA3 or any good C&C's and also Heroes of might and Magic VI (I have 5, only got it the other day and only played like 40 minutes but so far HOM&M5 was worth the $5 so HoM&M6 is on my thinking about list. Feel free to reccomend other games, I'm more looking for a Multiplayer RTS/TBS. I mean singleplayer stories are nice and skirmishes are good but I would really like an alive MP side, so I can compare myself with others and play against real people. There is just something so much more rewarding about beating a human. Anyway, thanks for all the replies I will be keeping an eye on all of em, will buy theone that you all recomend the mostand look into any that I havnt listed that you guys/girls recomend. Thanks!

Imo the best TBS is civilzation IV, you can get it for a bargain somewhere like you did with HOMM V. If your up to a heavy learning curve try to get your hand on hearts of iron. And imo the best RTS would be starcraft 2, reinstall that candy asap and work your way up to the diamond league. If you like HOMM, try to get HOMM 3, it's old but it surely has better gameplay then the others. I am a real TBS player. You might want to look into some X-com titles, the first and second are the best but extraterrestrials is nice as well, modded.

What does buying Starcraft 2 require you to do? Does it require it's own "hub" , ie steam(like) launcher etc?

No, SC 2 has it own matchmaking system called Battle.Net. You have several leagues in the game ranging from Bronze to Platinum and then Diamond. Realistically, its impossible to get to Diamond and most people will never reach Platinum.

It places you in a league based on how well you play so it should always match you with roughly equal oponents no matter how good or bad you are. Its matchmaking is quite good and it has an extremely active playerbase.

Just understand the game is crazy competitive and you can easily win or lose matches in split second decisions and tactics.

Battle.net, that's it. I though it was like some launcher/hub thingy. Though your mentioning of split second decisions is a little off putting. I guess the matchmaking would make up for it.
