I'm asking people who have been PC gamers for years, what was yesterdays crysis
what was the most hardware intensive games of previous times?
just wondering, thanks!

If I recall correctly Far cry was beyond its time when it was first released (like crysis no hardware could max it out when it first came out).
Battlefield 2 had good graphics but I don't know if it ever had the "best".
Quake 2, Homeworld, Quake 3, Black and White, Max Payne, Rome Total War, Doom 3, Far Cry. There are others, but these are some of the games that stand out for me as being visually spectacular.
Out of all of those, I think Quake 3 and Max Payne impressed me the most. When I saw Quake 3 I thought to myself: games no longer need to get better looking. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they are still getting better and better looking, but I've been gaming since '88 and Quake 3 was the first time I had ever felt that. Presumably it will be the last time, too.
Really spectacular looking engine.
half-life 2 has some pretty amazing graphics, how did that run when it was first released?
zachslayer
It ran really well.
Played perfectly on my old GeForce 4 MX420 64MB. DirectX 7 with medium settings.
EDIT: Here's an article to answer the TC's question.

Oblivion.bocheroOMG I remember how long it took to max that game I thought it was never gunna be tamed
since nobodys mentioned it yet im going to have to go with s.t.a.l.k.e.r
and altho the expansion pack i heard gamewise kinda sux, i did hear the graphics are pretty awsome....im pretty sure crysis was made after this game anyway

Thats because it came out like a year before Crysis and was not difficult to run...

I disagree. STALKER on maxed was nothing to brag about, not even close.
Battlefield 2, FEAR, Rome Total War, Doom 3, Far Cry, and Company of Heroes all come to mind. Someone mentioned Oblivion but I'd have to disagree. I was pulling 1280x1024, max settings, 4x AA, shadow filtering, etc. the day the game came out - and I didn't have the best rig either.

So true my 7600GT maxed the game at the same settings exept I chose HDR over AA because the card couldn't pull of both at the same time.
Besides oblivion is playable at 20FPS.
Far Cry, X3
I remember trying to play FC on my previous comp, which I bought 5-6 ya and getting a slideshow. I promptly ordered a 6800GT which at that time was second best card from Nvidia and to my surprised I maxed the game with that (as far as max res of my old LCD permitted.
I still can't max X3 without an unacteptable drop in frame rate, with a 8800GT.
The only games back in the day that made me drop my jaw at how amazing the graphics were are Far Cry and Company of Heroes.
I didn't even run them maxed out.
