I'm playing it now. Overall I like it, but I'm giving it a break until a few patches are released. Game performance could be a little better, but my boxes are pretty overpowered so I'm in good shape. However, I've encountered some game glitches that prevent me from being able to make progress. I've checked the STALKER board on here and other people have encountered the same issues, but not many.
Overall, I'm a big fan of the game. It plays kind of like a first person version of Fallout in some ways, but without the same degree of complexity in character skills, attributes and dialog. The game has great potential, but I think it needs some patches before it'll really reach its apex.

I don't understand...EXPLAIN!!! Well, for me the (environmentally) the dreary setting, and the reaction to characters really set the mood, and tone to the way you would expect for a tramatic situation such as the aftermath of a nuclear travesty. I like the small touches of how you have to approach most AI, weapons drawn will get an AI nearby to draw their weapon and train it on you. The weapons also have a nice touch in the game, you have later on some nice choices, and each weapon does have its own bonuses and drawbacks, I still like using the double-barrel shotty, but of course its range, and two-shot capability is most obviously a major hinderance in long distance situations. This of course in multiplayer is translated as well, which to my delight throws many off guard. Multiplayer so far has been nice,I know for a few people this is where the game has turned players off just due to the fact you really can't dominate just by camping out certain areas of the map, you got to stick and move, use your teammates, and above all be aware of whats around you. I have had more than a fair share of occasions where I was able to come up on an enemy sniper and if I could whisper in his ear if I so pleased. My computer runs this game very nicely I high setting @ 1440 x 900 on a Vista Home Premium system. I think I am fortunate that I have not had the noted drawbacks, or problems others may be having, but in acsguitar, I am just happy that he won't be in the multiplayer portion ruining the experience for those who can run the game, and actually enjoy it.I have been playing it for most of the day today, and I really like the environment , and the game itself it running nice for me. An 8, nothing special. But I love to play it because of the environment and all the enemy encounters. Too bad all the areas aren't fused together and you have to load.
And I also like the invetory and resistance thing. Graphics could be better (because this game reminds me of BF2 somehow)
I don't know will it work. Some people said, that STALKER have some bugs, but I must see it with my eyes. If It will be OK, then: between 9.8 and 9.9alexr
Â
9.9 is merely okay?Â
Since I'm from Ukraine, i couldn't just pass by the store and not buy this one. It's the first game of such scale that's been developed in my country (not counting Cossacs and Cossacs2Â from GSC, and Faces of War 1 and 2, which had some popularity, but were not even nearly as anticipated as S.T.A.L.K.E.R.). And just out of patriotism i'm ought to give it at least a 9/10. But that doesn't mean the game is bad. IMHO it's worth the score!!! So my vote is 9/10.
man you people make me mad... you can't judge the game by its demo..... anyway many of you are having problems because of your computers...lazzy102Most of these people are playing the retail game, and the game is buggy, check the official forums.
I haven't really put more than an hour into the game yet, but I like what I saw so far. I agree with the Fallout in first-person comment, I think I'll enjoy this game a lot. 8/10.
I haven't seen any real "bugs" so far, but once i got stuck in the environment. It was in the mill in the first location when you find a dead stalker with a PDA that says he has a stash on the roof (which, by the way, was empty). If you get into the small room with the stash instead of looting it out of the window, you won't be able to get out, because there's no such thing as crouch+jump we used in Half-Life.
By the way, the game has some really strong language in russian never seen in our games before. Which is good, because a bandit should talk as a real bandit, not some nobleman.
The only bug I've seen is the rain gets all weird artifacty looking.
Â
The game play is really bad for a FPS. Maybee not so much for a RPG.
Â
But facing 20 guys with guns that have no accuracy while your energy is being sapped due to radiation that you can't get away with makes this game no fun.Â

If the AI's accuracy is too low, adjust the game difficulty. On "Master" level it's brutally realistic. In even as little as a two on one firefight the odds are highly against you unless you are much better armed -or- have a tactical advantage.

I had it on the second to highest level and then after 30 minutes switched to second to lowest. And the AI was cheap as heck both waysI'm getting a seriously bad ghosting glitch with the sky in the game. It's as if the skybox isn't rendering properly, even though everything else is.............
I think it's because of either my dedicated 64 MB plus shared 192 MB video memory solution, or the fact that my video processor isn't kinda weird, but hopely a patch will fix the issue.
The game was just unfinished. It looks like I predicted, a game that still has good potential but never got there. The graphics are really nice, especially in a thunder storm with all the settings turned up, but the engine doesn't like textures up full with lighting on full too, it's one or the other with this game.
Anyway, where can I buy weapons like scoped rifles or upgrades, and also cars? I want to buy some of these.

The game is very challenging, but once you get the hang of aiming you can really stand your ground. If you run into a room with three armed guards you should expect to be killed. If you make smart use of cover, are comparably armed and use single shots or short burts you should be able to take on multiple opponents without issue.

I can't believe people call themselves gamers and whine about graphics so much.
Â
Also, you can't rate a game bad because your 6 year old computer can't run it. This is an excellent game, sure there are bugs, but it's a very cool premise and a good atmosphere. I'd give it a 9.0.Â
I think I'll wait a little while before getting it. Allow time for patches, and maybe a price drop. Gogamer wants $70 for the collectors edition tin:|
8.9
Great atmosphere, good AI, graphics are fine, sound is decent. I like the music on the menu screen.
I've been playing for about 7-8 hours and possibly after getting a bit further in the game + a patch, it could be a 9.0
I have a 7900GT and had to change the full dynamic lighting down to object dynamic lighting to get a nice frame rate at 1680x1050. It was playable with full dynamic lighting on, but I like it to run a little smoother. Â
I had the problem with the artifacts in the rain and I just quit the game then restarted it. That fixed it. It only happened once. The game has only crashed once. I'm waiting on that patch...Â
I'd give it a 8.5
Â
The game looks beautiful, game play is challenging and interesting. BUT, the AI can be retarded at times. I am sure patches later will make a significant difference though. I have been waiting for this gamae for a few years now, so I was expecting a LOT.Â
It's fairly average, 7.7. It's a cool concept, but certainly could have been executed better.  There are many frustrating things.  Aquiring money is easy, but you can buy all the ammo available and your'e still going to run out.  Enemies drop their guns when killed, but none of them will have ammo. You start a mission, but if you don't already know what to do, it's likely the guy you're supposed to protect will be dead before you know what happened. Crazy things, like popping out of the sewers and finding 10 bandits out of nowhere blasting the crap out of you. Also, I'm experiecing a glitch that's keeping me from progressing further. A guy's supposed to have a key and my pda should update, but no key is there. So it's an ok game with a lot of "buts".:P
a great deal better than FEAR, slightly above farcry and just below HL2.......id say its deserving of 9.1-9.2 its very good
So would you guys call this a tactical shooter like lets say Rainbow 6 or Ghost recon?AngelB1ack
not as much in squad tactics but it definately airs on the side of realism when it comes to aiming and shooting, run and gun doesnt work at all, crouching whilst using the iron sights and firing in small controlled bursts does.....it plays like farcry in that regard although this is a bit more unforgiving in its gunfights you can die in a couple of well placed shotsÂ
