Actually, Gamespy was called QSpy back then. I'm pretty certain Qspy was first. And then there was TEN...ugh.

TEN was where it was at. I remember I couldn't figure out for the life of me how to use it. It came packaged with my Duke Nukem 3d and I would've given anything to play it online.

Ok, I played on Mplayer with the original Rainbow 6 and Klingon Academy. That doesn't make me old, just more experienced.

I much prefered game(q)spy to mplayer. It always have me much more lag and it wasn't as easy to find custom game modes with it (if I remember right). How about this fossil, anyone remember Heat? Was what you used to play Postal online.

R6 on MPlayer. Those were the days. 1998. Wow I was 17. Seems like an eternity ago. Here I am 25, not old but definately seasoned as one memeber wrote. Anyone from SIN clan? We mostly played Eagle Watch. My name was magic.

I remember most of those mentioned, Mplayer or gamespy came with AvP if I remember correctly, I know I had many games that had both, but that is the first one that comes to mind.

I'm so old I can't even remember what I used to play GLQuake online with back in 1997. I do know I played via dialup modem and our gracious (home server) host had one of the first home cable modem broadband around.

Meh. We decided Quake 2 was best played via LAN parties.

Kali!Makari

Yes, this one. :)

I paid the lifelong subscription to this (was cheap though). Got some great use out of it when the only options for most multiplayer was LAN or direct modem dial. Servers didnt really exist back then for the most part. My favorite Kali games were Warcraft 2 (before battle.net came out) and Duke Nukem 3D. Good times!

Somewhat, I think I used it for Rainbow Sox. I remember Westwood online among others. I remember GameSpy Arcade vividly - used it all the time for games, server browsing and chat rooms etc. I also remember the Microsoft Gaming Zone which well, wasn't nearly as cool as GameSpy Arcade to the 8-9 year old me.
