Your TOP 10 "Must Play" Games

I feel like there's nothing coming out worth getting around this time (Single Player). Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning didn't get my attention, Darkness 2 was nice but the story was too short IMO so not all that great either. That's why I ask this, what are, in your opinion, the "must play" games from... say past 10 years (don't feel like playing too old stuff)?

A.K.A.: Recommend me games. As for what I like: Anything that can be fully enjoyed in SOLO (so certain FPSs are a no-no)

Im new to PC gaming (just started about a week and a half ago) so far Ive picked up The Witcher and its amazing, STALKER which is super freaking hard but Im Loving it. Other games Ive gotten but havent played are Torchlight, Vampire the Masquerade,, Penumbra, Doom 3, Killing Floor, and Magic the Gathering DotPW...those are games that have peaked my interest so far.

Theres some more older games I want but those are what Ive gotten recently

Ok, then in no particular order:

1. Grand Theft Auto IV (not optimized great, but really amazing game)

2. The Orange Box

3. Bioshock

4. Crysis

5. Fallout 3 (if you like this, go ahead and add New Vegas)

6. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (epic campaign, and there are some fun co-op mods out there)

7. Batman: Arkham Asylum (if you like this, then go ahead and add the sequel to your list)

Other great PC games include the Dead Space series, the Left 4 Dead series, RAGE, Hitman: Blood Money (the others are a bit older then 10 years), The Elder Scrolls series, the Rainbow Six: Vegas games, and Borderlands, plus many more others will probably list.

PC games only, no MP FPS type games, and most are relatively new.

I might also add Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005. It's a great game for chilling out, and also a game that you can play with your friends. Mind you that I knew nothing about golf before that game and I got seriously hooked.

• Mount & Blade: Warband with the Prophesy of Pendor mod. - the greatest sand-box RPG/Action ever made, very popular, though beware it is very open-ended. You'll become hopelessly addicted.
• Gothic 3 (with the community patch) - one of my favorite RPGs of this generation, it's similar to Oblivion, but infinitely superior.
• Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay - gruesome action/stealth/FPS with a thick layer of atmosphere in a prison environment, one of my personal favorite games of all times.
• Rise of Nations: Gold Edition - one of my personal favorite RTS of all times, combines the likes of Civilization and Age of Empires into one, a ton of content to play with, and addictive gameplay to boot.
• Age of Mythology + The Titans expansion - the greatest RTS in the 'Age of ..' series, and another personal favorite of mine.
• S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Cernobyl (with the Complete mod for improved graphics, effects, and more content) - the greatest first person shooter of this generation, arguably one of the greatest games of all times period.

I'm new to PC gaming too. I got these games and they are a blast: 1- Need for speed Hot Pursuit: This game is very underrated piece of work that definitely should be checked out. Huge number of awesome cars and there are touches to the game that gets you hooked. 2- WOW Battle Chest with all the expansion sets: Every PC gamer should have this game. 3- Fable The Lost Chapters: The best RPG game I ever played.

A lot of people are going to say portal 2 and starcraft 2. If you're anything like me, you might get bored of portal 2. If that happens, just hang out on reddit for a little bit and you'll experience the entire script in the form of endless memes and stuff, so you won't miss anything.

If you're going to try starcraft 2, play it before the other RTS games I listed. It's a good starting point but it gets really clicky and dull after a while, and it's pretty basic in terms of army size and tactics.

Some of you guys are recommending games that are not within 10 years old. Diablo series? Red Alert 1? These games are great, but ooold. Here are some more random suggestions.

Atom Zombie Smasher - fun little defense/strategy game

Orcs Must Die - very fun trap defense game with 3rd person action and shooting, lots of orc killing

Unstoppable Gorg - innovative take on tower defense, but fun

Din's Curse - great Diablo-style RPG, with randomized areas and even randomized towns

King Arthur: The Roleplaying Wargame - Like Total War with some unique fantasy elements and a decent campaign story

AI War - very innovated RTS, with spaceship combat on a 2D plane

Star Ruler - great indie 4X space strategy, heavily patched and updated since release a few years ago

Trine 1, 2 - beautiful, wonderful side-scrolling platform, must-play

Space Pirates and Zombies - Great 2D action game where you control space ships, also huge strategy component when not fighting, interesting story

When someone limits themselves to only the last ten years then you aren't looking for the real top 10 games. Star Control 2, X-Com UFO Defense, Crusader: No Remorse, the real Duke, both Quake 1&2, heck even Half-Life was out 14 years ago, and my personal favorite is now 12 yrs old Deus Ex. I for one am very glad I got to play these games, to bad for you...

Here's what I'd say: PC only of course:

1. Baldur's Gate 2 - One of the best WRPGs ever!
2. Vampire the masquerade: bloodlines - One of the best WRPGS ever!
3. Black and White - A rather unique and interesting game.
4. Fable: The Lost Chapters - Fable 1 is also one of my top WRPGs.
5. Syberia 1 is probably a game I'd recommend as well.
6. For non solo gaming: Tibia is a great mmorpg with an active community but unfortunately a community with 90% bad apples.
7. As for yet another mmorpg: Pirates of the Burning Sea is a wonderful game as well!
