*raises hand*
nick1689
newer ones, yea...I tend to dislike them since theyve become so multiplayer-centric.
just a few in no order
c&c generals
age of empires 1,2,3
company of heros
dawn of war
battle for middle earth 2
Company of Heroes
Age of Empires 2
Age of Empires 1
Europa Universalis 3
Medievil 2:TW
Warcraft 3
Age of Mythology
Starcraft
Dawn of War
Rise of Nations
1) Total Annihilation - While the story is lacking, the gameplay makes up for it. The scale, commander idea, physics, new resource system, and epic music all combine to create my favorite RTS.
2) Supreme Commander - Supreme commander tried to take TA and improve upon it. it succeeds in some (AI, scale, naval combat), and fails in others (music, ground combat IMO). (Nostalgia is probably the only thing keeping it from the #1 spot)
3) StarCraft - An excellent story puts this in my top list. The small scope, old-fashioned gameplay, and lack of physics keep it from rising higher.
of ones i played
1) starcraft + brood wars
2) Rome Total War
3) supreme Commander ( played no more than half hour cuz comp couldn't handle, but fun )
4) Empire at War + expansion
and soon to be # 1, Empire Total War and Civilization 4 was a good TBS
1) Age of empires 2
2)Dawn of war dark crusade
3) Sins of a sloar empire
4) Starcraft
5) Age of empires 3
Only my top 5 because I have a crappy comp which prevents me from playing newer RTS games.
ultimakay
same here, gonna get a newer comp soon though
Company Of Heroes
Dawn of War
Sins of A Solar Empire
I can't stand resource based rts so I play very little of them.
Not necessarily in this order:
World in Conflict
Company of Heroes
Age of Empires III
Age of Empires II
Command and Conquer
Command and Conquer Red Alert
Command and Conquer Red Alert 3
Sins of a Solar Empire
uhhh...
um...
err...
can't think of any else. I need a new computer...
1)Total Annihilation
2) Homeworld 1
3) Homeworld 2
4) Company Of Heroes
5) World In Conflict
6) Red Alert 1+2
7) Supreme Commander + Forged Alliance
8. Rome Total War
9) Medieval 2 Total War
10) Sins of A Solar Empire
I can name my top 3:
1. Dawn of War: The Dark Crusade (Just brilliant)
2. Age of Empires II (III was nothing compared to this behemoth)
3. Sins of a Solar Empire (One word: Epic)
5. C&C Generals
4. C&C Red Alert 2
3. Dawn of War (+ Expansions)
2. Warcraft 3 (although I did only play the demo but I loved every bit of it)
1. C&C 3 Tiberium Wars
Although my computer struggles to play it (my PC is that bad), C&C 3 was amazing. It could have been better but I liked having squads of people rather than single fighters. I also liked having big armies to maul the others with but you can find different difficulties to cope with the easy and hard bits.
How are you people rating these games? By fame? By quality? Because quality-wise, RTS has come a long way since Dune 2 and Total Annihilation, and almost each iteration has improved upon the old formula. I can't possibly see how you can rate a game like Dune 2 above a game like Company of Heroes (which, btw, is probably one of the best).F1_2004
My list was really kinda like a timeline for my RTS experience, not really a list of good to bad.Â
I also rated mine based off of how much fun I had playing it at the time. Of course, Company of Heroes is more complex and entertaining than Dune 2 is today, but Dune 2 was a lot more exciting to me when I first played it in comparison to my first time playing CoH (hope that makes sense).Â
