Stealing this thread idea from the Tweak Guides forum, I'm curious what people think are their top 5 hardest PC games. My list would be:
5-1 (1 being the hardest)
5. Dark Messiah (Hardest difficulty)
4. Gothic 3
3. Farcry
2. System Shock 2
1. AvP 1
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Just a few because I couldn't figure out the more finesse things involved at first:
Simcity 4
Company of Heroes (not a very good game imo, despite that I adore both RTS and WWs)
Fahrenheit until I remapped the controls
Going back to 1.6 after playing CS: Source
A purely diplomatic character on Fallout (doable, but that strategy took awhile)
1. tom clancys splinter cell chaos theory
2. brothers in arms earned in blood
3. dawn of war
4.warcraft 3 frozen throne
5. brothers in arms road to hill 30
fighter91
You find BIA hard?
5. Call of Duty - Veteran
4. Company of Heroes
3. Far Cry
2. GRAW
1. Halo 2 (I ain't that good on Legendary)
Looks through stack:
1. Black and White (Land 5 omfg....)
2. Battle Realms (Campaign)
3. Might And Magic 6 (All of it)
4. Might and Magic 7 (Devils..)
5. Might And Magic 9 (Just plain hard later)
Stalker was REALLY easy compared to those., and i did it on normal.
Company of heroes? Pffft...
Oblivion on the hardest difficulty from start to finish is easily the hardest game EVER, maybe even impossible.zero9167
That has more to do with gimped leveling system and character devolpment.. You can cheese the system because any where around by making LOGICAL major skills for acllass such as run will screw you in the end.. Its pretty rediculous. To have people claim that it is a top notch RPG (in the sense of stats, character devolpment, interaction with characters or the complete lack of with the case of Oblivion with pretty much 0 choice making) is mind boggling...
Alot of games on hardest difficulty is really hard at times..
Farcry, and Call of duty 1 come to mind.. Where a errand shot or two will kill you, which makes matters worse when your fighting hordes of guys..
I also find it hard to believe that people think Dawn of War is harder the Warcraft 3.. Not saying one is better then the other, but Warcraft 3 requires borderline insane micromanagement, playing a computer on default difficulty will get you steam rolled for a long time.. Then after that on the hardest difficulty it gets to the point where the computer will pull out guys low on health so units retargeet on other guys and bring them back in the fight in rediculous times.
X3 Reunion is pretty tough as well.
5) SimCity 2000 (I was like 10 and just couldn't make a profitable city :( )
4) Baldur's Gate II (****ing mind flayers and vampires)
3) ???
2) S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (Time + a million enemies + a destination = reload, run, die, repeat)
1) Hidden & Dangerous (Even once you get past the bugs, this game is bloody ridiculous)
5 & 4 weren't actually that hard, just in spots or because of my age. But 1 & 2 required a lot of use of the 'load' option.

Oblivion on the hardest difficulty isnt that hard but just very tedious since you can shoot a monster in the head 20 times and it still wont die.
X-com Terror From the Deep had some hardish colony raiding missions
FelkBR
That game could be a major cheating bastard.
Good call.
I'm really surprised Far Cry made so many lists. There were a lot of websites that made fun of the AI on harder difficulties because as long as you stayed low in grass or bushes, the Ai would never see you unless they were on top of you. Also, Starcraft and WC3 were easy as long as you used the attack-move buttons, never played much DoW. The only micro that I found necessary (not useful, necessary) was heroes in WC3 to turn tides of battle. But we all have different playstyles, so I suppose we will disagree on what's hard or not based on how we do it.YourOldFriend
Are you kidding me? You think attack move is all you need in Warcraft 3 or Starcraft.. You need to either play harder difficulties of the CPu or play online...
