I bough a 16 gb Zune HD maybe 6 months ago and now after using it every day for maybe 2-3 hours a day on average, and now battery life is horrible. i charged it yesterday and now i already have to charge it again. What is a good MP3 that is relatively cheap? between 100-160 bucks. 8gb would definitely suffice.

Why not an Ipod or Ipod touch, both have great battery. Its kind of funny how you should mention terrible battery, I have a 1st gen zune, you know those ugly brown bricks, and The battery is pretty sub par. I seems like they never focused ont he battery. Also to are you playing games or watching movies on your Zune HD that is probably why the battery is draining.

If you like to listen to music, the iPod isn't that great as a player. Sure it does apps/games, but as a music player, the onboard DAC and amp aren't very good.

I've ordered a Zune opening kit, replacement battery and replacement motherboard for Zune 80/120GB from that website. It's an easy repair to make to replace a battery. I would totally recommend it.

Does it matter when 99% of what he plays is probably MP3 format paired with a sub $100 pair of headphones?

That really is odd about your zune HD, when I had mine it had excelent battery life. Make sure you dont have the wifi on as that will drain the battery.

If your still looking for a player I would recommend the ipod touch 4g. You can get the 32gb one for $274 at Amazon. The only negative I had with it was having to use itunes, as I really dislike the software.

Cant say I had any problems with mine.... And I guess it could be overpriced depending on what you want it for. For what you get for me its reasonably priced. Another negative I forgot about is the cheap camera it comes with, the quality is just terrible. And the sound for me was great as well. I never tested them out with any high impedance headphones but, with the HD 595's and my in ear headphones the sound quality was very good.

COWON are the guys who make jetaudio, which is one of the best music players around. I prefer it to winamp and windows media player, but it costs money.

Avoid the ipod unless u want to be tied the awfull itunes for all your music. Have a look at the 'creative zen x fi' for a player, it sounds pretty amazing with a good set of headphones with the x fi chip doin its thing ive yet to hear any other player that touches it for sheer sound quality and thats the single most important thing for an mp3 player.

In short: Yes. There are a lot of good headphones for less than $100. They are only capable of reproducing what they are provided, and to get the most out of any speaker you need to have good source material and equipment. And to the OP, I've been looking closely at the Sansa Clip myself, and it reviews very well. Haven't used it myself, yet. You'll find it goes on sale frequently at Newegg if you want to wait a bit for a deal. Good luck, Boz

nope, I use it just for music. I use my cell phone for games/apps and internet, I guess that could be why. Wifi will drain the battery of just about anything.

I use my Zune loads and only charge it once a week. I find if your not constantly touching the device the battery will last forever.

Man, what the hell you been doing to your Zune, lol? Seriously, I own 2 (one is a regular non-HD version 4gb) and have had my Zune HD 16gb for over a year and I've never had an issue w/ battery life. Have you tried contacting Microsoft? Perhaps it's a faulty battery; you should try see if you can get a replacement before you throw in the towel w/ it.

Well, i dont know what size you want, but the cowon x7 is great, I play it 6 hours a day while im at work and charge it once every 2 weeks.

Its interface takes a little getting used to, but once you are its fine.

Only an audiophile is going to notice the difference. And you'd need an expensive pair of headphones to take advantage of the other players. And even then most of his songs are probably MP3.

$35-$50 =/= expensive for headphones. Audiophile or not you will hear a difference between players. Its not as if something like a Cowon J3 (8GB+memory slot $175) will cost more than an iPod touch (8GB $200). He'd be spending less money and getting something better, whats the problem with that?

You can hear the difference in the power of the headphone amp for sure. Whenever we hook up my girlfriend's iPod to our home stereo we're always noticing its lack of volume and fidelity. When we hook up my Zune it's a lot more powerful and dynamic.

Did you leave it charging all the time? If so, that's probably why your battery is bad now... unplug things like MP3 players and phones when they have a full charge, or you damage the battery. I've had a 64gb zune for about 1.5 years now, and it last a long, long while in-between charges. I just charge it when it get empty, then prompty unplug it once it's full.

That's literally impossible if you're using the same battery unless you almost never use your zune.

On the contrary, I have an 80GB Zune that I've had for more than 3 years now, and I put it on my charging dock all the time, regardless of charge level. Battery still lasts as much is it did when I bought it.

That's literally impossible if you're using the same battery unless you almost never use your zune.

Okay, well, realistically the charge has had to have gone down, but it's not enough for me to have noticed and complain and say "Wow, this used to last longer." I have over 40GB of music on it and use it everday.
