What the topic says. It's not required at all. I played PS3 in standard def for months, and it still looked amazing regardless!!! Very amazing. I just figured I'd say this because I've heard so many potential buyers say that they though otherwise!

Yes, I knew that. And no, it's not why I'm avoiding the PS3. I want games! And the PS3 doesn't have any. I'd much rather have a 360, but it's probably too late to still get one of those (when thinking back to the Xbox). The Wii also doesn't have anything interesting. So this might actually become the first generation I've ever skipped.

you can play PS1 & PS2 games on the PS3. its the memory cards that are not compatible.

the 40gb doesn't but the 60gb and 80gb have BC
and the 20GB does too if you can actually find one.

It isn't 700 dollars. It does have backwards compatablilty.
yes i am aware. and yes the fact that i dont have a ps3 rite now is partly due to the fact that the television i currently own has lost most of its brightness and shows very dark. so i needed a new tv nehow so i decided to hold off on buying the PS3 to purchase a 42' sharp aquos hdtv, which shud be here in a few days :). so phase 1 complete. ps3 here i come :D

WTF, I thought PS3 I had FULL BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY with all games from PSone and PS2.

Stop your fighting and cool down. To resume some of the info: -PS3 supports the old standard TV. -The NEW 40Gb PS3 DOESN'T have PS2 backward compatibility (check this out).
