Typical street fighter? :P
ok try out .. hmm.. king of fighters 2006.. and if u wanted a more arcade like then marvel vs capcom maybe?
I havn't played a fighting game much since Killer Instinct on the SNES. I tried to play Tekken 3, but the combat sucked when compared with KI. What would any of you suggest is the best fighter on the PS2?NocturnalDemon
Tekken 3's combat sucked when compared to KI? Get real... The worst Tekken game owns KI for free.
As for your question: It's subjective, meaning you'll get varying answers based on taste rather than core evidence to support their claims. I'll break it down in two categories based on fighting depth.
Deepest 3d fighter: VF4: Evolution
Deepest 2d fighter: Guilty Gear X2
These may not be the most fun fighting games for a lot of people, but they are regarded as having the most extensive combat nuances of the 2d and 3d genre. The must haves imo are VF4 Evo, GGX2, Tekken 5, Tekken Tag, Soul Calibur 3, and Street Fighter Anniversay.

I could understand since u play Killer Instinct. So yea try playing the Street Fighter games that came out.
Guilty Gear X2
Street Fighter Anniversary Edition
Street Fighter Alpha Anthology
King of Fighters 2002/2003
Marvel vs Capcom 2, Street Fighter Anniversary Collection. - best 2d
Tekken 4, 5 and VF4:Evo - best 3d
Tekken 5 is my 1st choice
Soul Calibur 2 would be my 2nd, 3 didnt seem to be that great of an improvement...
DOA Hardcore would be 3rd but considering that it was made like 7 years ago, thats amazing O_O
or u can just go to the arcades and play 2d classic fighting, marvel vs capcom 2, street fighter alpha 3 blah
try dragonbnallz budokai tenkaichi 3
i jus got it the other day and was seriously impressed,it a killer game,a little bit of a button masher but there sum skill needed to.altho the controls arent perfect,i say it worth a try if u a dbz fan
Tekken 3 was the best fighting game on the PS ................. Tekken 5 is the best fighting game on the PS2 .......... get Tekken 5
Street Fighter Anniversary edition. It's got Street Fighter 3 Third Strike on it and all version of Street Fighter 2 and the movie. Otherwise Tekken 5 OR PROBABLY the best 3D fighter Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution.SF Anniversary Collection is good, but the final boss in 3rd strike is ridiculously hard and not worth it, as well as the normal setting 4 the SF 2 games in Anniversary Collection.
Not to say Fight Night, Guilty Gear, MvC, WWE Smackdown, or any of those games are bad. Not at all but Teken 5, Virtua FIghter 4 Evolution, and Street Fighter Aniiversary Edition (Collection?) are by far the best.

Marvel vs capcom 2...but it is high as hell. earlmccormick88If u mean high on price, it's true! That game is still around the 50 dollar range.

What would any of you suggest is the best fighter on the PS2?NocturnalDemonTo answer your question im gonna say DBZ Budokai 3 b/c the action is still faced paced to this day, DOA 2 HardCore, and MK Armageddon. Alot of people complain about the combat in MK, when u can basically do what u can do in other fighters which is juggling. There r so many characters in Armageddon that can do 15 to 20 hit combos, it's mind boggling y people complain about the combat.
i was preferential of Guilty Gear 1 over 2 or Isuka, i thought the fighting was faster paced and it was easier to chain combos together (in 2 and isuka they tweaked it so after certain attacks your last animation lags so you can't chain it any further) I personally can relate, i don't like VF much or Tekken either. I am a big KI fan still to this day. So i'd say check out
Guilty Gear 1, Street Fighter Anniv. or Street Fighter Alpha collection! or you can always Mame your favorite games!

I agree... Also add Marvel vs Capcom 2
Marvel vs Capcom 2 is a HEAVILY imbalanced fighter, not to mention the PS2 version is pretty awful compared to that of the Dreamcast. Good luck finding it too, for some reason its around $45. It's a fun game, but it is in no way one of the best fighters on the PS2.
While it's not my style, FV4: Evo is probably one of the best fighters ever. I'd personally suggest Soul Calibur III as a well rounded game, although the computer AI is beyond cheap, so if you get frustrated easily, look elsewhere.
I couldn't help but notice you haven't played many fighters since Killer Instinct...um, hate to break it to you, but that game was about as much fun as Primal Rage.
KING OF FIGHTERS XI.
The best game on the PS2 also.
it has the best tag system( compared to other team based game) that a fighting game has to offer.
it has 40+ characters and the game is still not off-balance
and it has the deepest gameplay a fighting game ever had.
any fighting game fan must own it.
SoulCalibur3 balanced the speed out between 1 and 2 and introduced alot of things. Its still imbalanced though but still well paced and exciting to watch.
If you like being anchored to the floor, crappy ground game controls and dodgey range for normal attacks, get tekken 5. Or get a 2D fighting game worth playing.
