Resident Evil 4 is a great game, but it's far from scary. It might have a couple parts that make some people jump, but it doesn't really have anything that fills its players with terror. I've never known anyone to be haunted at night by dreams filled with things from RE4.
Now, if you want something truly scary and disturbing, go for the Fatal Frame series. All three games are masterpieces of horror.
Well leaving aside fatal frame 3 and silent hill 4 rules of rose is yet anoder scary game , the kinda music , the enviornment and other such factors make it different from other games
i haven't actually played it, but i heard Silent Hill 2, and Fatal Frame 2 are the bestdante_123456I have played them both, and have concluded that this is fact.
Best silent hill- silent hill 2
best fatal frame- crimson butterfly
old ps1 games i'd most likely say parasite eve because CG was top notch in the first game
Rule of rose is also good and if your into something different maybe Siren
If you want to get into PS1 games, then look no further than the first 2 Dino Crisis games. Those were some of the BEST survival horror games I have ever played and I think the series was sadly overlooked. Dino Crisis 4 is still my most wanted sequel, but I have very little hope that it will ever happen.....Best silent hill- silent hill 2
best fatal frame- crimson butterfly
old ps1 games i'd most likely say parasite eve because CG was top notch in the first game
Rule of rose is also good and if your into something different maybe Siren

[QUOTE="coolchris12333"]except RE4 because its highest rated and most people will probably say that ...No, more like because RE4 isn't scary at all.2deluxe
LOL no kidding.
Anyways, at the moment I think Silent Hill 2 is- it is so scary and disturbing. I think Siren is scarier but overall it is not as good. Resident Evil 1 is right up there too. I haven't got to play my Fatal Frame collection or SH3 & 4 yet though- I have to get back into the survival horror mood for those, you just can't force it.
Ah, a truly great topic....the best horror games! Since I am a bit of a connoisseur of such a genre, allow to me list my personal favorites.
Fatal Frame 1 is the best Fatal Frame, although they are all scary. Fatal Frame is my favorite horror game of all time.
Silent Hill 3 is my personal favorite of the Silent Hills, scary and disturbing and a great sequel to the original. Although you should really play them all. Walter Sullivan is something to behold in SH4, the Room.
Resident Evil's are all excellent (well, I haven't played Survivor...for obvious reasons).
Siren is quite scary and the sightjacking ability adds a new element to the horror. Completing the objectives in the game are a bit over-the-top though.
Kuon is a very excellent horror game...check it out if you haven't done so.
Rule of Rose is merely okay...it's not particularly scary as it is a little disturbing.
And of course, let's not forget The Thing. If you like horror with action, then The Thing is perfect!
This is more like best horror game level, but the Haunted Ocean House level in Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines is one of the scariest experiences I've ever had on pc. Play this level at night, by yourself, and it will scare the $hit out of you! From lightbulbs that bust when you pass, violent poltergeists, eerie apparitions, and "oh $hit" moments like when you pick up a newspaper and read about a child found decapitated, then all of a sudden you start hearing the monotonous thud of a head tumbling around in a dryer coming from the laundry room, this level oozes bone chilling ambience.
Some reviewer write it down perfectly it was something like: In Resident Evil you open de door and theres a zombie that says BOO! to you.Actually, I found the disturbing nature of SH2 to be more effective than the straight up "boo" style scares of Fatal Frame, allthough I have much love for both. The demons in SH are terrifying because of how disturbing they are and the effect of the radio emitting static when they get close is brilliant!
In Silent Hill you open de door and there is the word BOO! writen in the wall with blood in a real messy fashion.
In Fatal Frame the door, the room the whole house and everithing is criyin out loud BOO! to you.
To me the scariest experience comes from fatal frame, the first, the second seems a bit on the easy side, and what triggers your nerve is the feeling that you are going to die, and that is not a strong feel in a easy game, I wish there could be the hard mode option from the beggining.
Silent Hill is disturbing indeed, I played the SH2 like tree times, never been scared at all, but disturbed because of the story, always.
Fatal Frame, masterpiece.

On top of all that, it has incredibly unique gameplay.
