Xenogears has a good story as long as you don't take it out of context and start applying it's philosophies in real life. Some nerds have done so and they needed a brain check.
The original legacy of kain: blood omen is considered a rpg and my favorite. Its more like a more fleshed out diablo though on its gameplay. Though the music, characters, and story doesn't get much better.
I'm gonna say Chrono Trigger... I know it was originally for SNES but it was re-released with extra scenes for the PSX. After that one, the RPG story that I found the most amazing is BoF IV: Fou-Lu kicks ass!!!
I'd say Chrono Cross/Chrono Trigger for execellent storylines, fun characters, and fun game play, Final Fantasy VIII and IX for great characters and storylines, and I personally found Legend of Dragoon to be fun with an interesting storyline, albeit translated horribly and rather painful to read sometimes (as well as slightly frustrating because of annoyingly difficult bosses that come from no where XD).
I'd go with Vagrant Story and Final VIII, for character development and evolution... Darth_kriza
:lol: Final Fantasy 8 has some of the worst character developement in the series. Squall (the main character) is the only one who has dynamic character developement. The other characters are static and flat. They are not fleshed out at all.
