Good RPG for the PS2? As opposed to what? After all PS2 IS RPG. No console that's been out in the past few years has the RPG collection the PS2 does.

 Dragon Quest VIII

Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2

Shadow Heartrs 1, 2, and the New World

Xenosaga 1 and 3 (2 is cheap so buy it just so you advance the story but don't expect too much out of it)

Star Ocean Till the End of Time

.hack//GU (if you like the .hack series. If not then stay away)

If you are interested in SRPG (Strategy RPGs)

La Pucelle Tactics (fun game but old so it may be hard to get into)

Disgaea (1 then number 2 because they rule. Not before La Pucelle Tactics though, you'll appreciate the one above more that way)

Then Phantom Brave if you like the above ones and can handle a serious story with little comedy.

Makai Kingdom only if you fall in love with SRPGs like I have.

Grandia 2 DEFINATELY get that one. It's a little glitcy, a little buggy but one of the best.

Grandia 3 is just superb but it's short so you may want to wait a while.

 Wild Arms games are supposed to be pretty decent.

Tales of the Abyss was fun even though i didn't play into it that far.

But those are my recommendations out of part of my collection. Maybe try Valkerie Profile also.
