I recently just bought some component cables for my PS2 because I just acquired a HDTV and using these cables make the picture brighter and clearer but there is a lot more noticeable "jaggies" and aliasing.  Do I have to change some settings on my PS2 or my TV to make things look hi-def??

This kinda makes me mad but I just want the picture to look crisp and clear and im not getting that.  What to do?!?

So your comparing component cables picture quality to that of composite cables both on an HDTV, not Component on an HDTV vs Composite on a SDTV? When I hooked composite cables up, the image was so awful and blurry it was unplayable, but perhaps it is different for each game (I was playing FFXII). It is possible that you got a better picture bc the components gave you a clearer image, which will exagerate the jaggies, even though as I just stated Im suprised that composite cables would even look halfway decent.

Now if you are comparing the image to that of a SDTV, then yes, the SDTV's image will look better. HD enhances the images and brings out the jaggies in them. Thats just something you have to live with when you hook a PS2 up to a HDTV.

Damn that sucks, because I was really looking forward to playing GoW2 in nice sleek HD....I guess I'll have to bust out my SDTV then.

Actually it is kinda case by case. None of the Square-Enix games have 480P. If a game is 480I and is displayed on a HDTV, it looks noticably different, more jaggies, etc. But if a game is 480P, like God of War and God of War 2, the game will look better on a compont cable. It sadly is a mixed bag, there are very few titles that display in 480P, about 300 if that, but look at it this way, your DVD movies, and in the future PS3 games will look amazing on your new TV.

Last gen consoles aren't meant to go HD. They only magnify the imperfections. 480P isn't true HD also.

Well, GOW1 supprisingly didn't look that great on a big, HD screen (Even with 16:9 and progressive scan turned on), however GOW2 may look good still. I mean LOZ Twilight princess (GC) actually did look good on an HDTV, so its not to say all non-hd games will not look good.
