The first one stunk in my opinion (it was shadowed over when it was first released by other top rpg games). So was the 2nd one. I have never played Dark Cloud 2 but my friends have told me I should do so. Convince me, why?ForlonHope
Nice music
Nice graphic
deep story and gameplay
Alright you Punk...(Level 11 Atomic Punk to be exact) I'll tell you why.
First, your right, Darck Cloud One was not great (I've played it at a friends house once or twice). But I was still able to realize that it needed more.
But let me tell you something, DC2 is breathtaking. Firstly, I am NOT a fan of RPG's. Dark Cloud 2 is the exception. The music is so heartwarming, and I mean that most literally as possible. I mean, the music is so peaceful, and so soulful, you'll be hypnotized. I dont look too much into music, but when its something to point out, I will, and its no exception in DC 2. Secondly, (more importantly) the gameplay is fabulous. You may find it tedious to go through levels of randomized maps to look for keys to go to the next level, but its fully motivated. Everytime I enter, Im expecting a great boss battle or a further look into the story that starts of myserious. The game starts off slow actually, but about 30% of the way you begin to understand the storyline. The Graphics are like the music, breathtaking in a special way. This isnt your Tekken theme grapihcs, or your Halo styled graphics, but rather, its a "get away from reality" sort of feel. Looking at a sunset never felt more real. I know it sounds incredibly stupid, but trust me, its one of those games where you feel like your apart of.
So, honestly, I would force you to get it, but you have your own free will. The last time I checked, this game was $7.00 and granted that you can find it, I guarantee that it will not be a waste of money, as it is a great improvement over DC1.
As GameFreakJason said, brill' sound and graphics. Also the extras you unlock while playing the game such as spheda(mini golf), using monster transformations to talk with dungeon monsters, fish: catch, breedor racethem and being able to take pictures of any object, enviroment or creature and combine them to invent stufftakes away any slight boredom you may get exploring dungeons.
This game is great, I agree with the poster who praised it extensively earlier. At the moment it is a cheap game and you can get it for nothing at all, well worth a shot for what it is. Yes the weapon upgrade list is big, but you can make some very useful things with it, branching upgrade paths. The invention system is innovative, and if you don't feel you are up to the task of finding out what every single picture is, you can always use a FAQ. Weapons breaking and needing repair is hardly an issue by the time you get to the better weapons in the game, so nothing to complain about there. Great mini games, spent countless hours playing spheda (golf) and raising fish. The maps are random and you do have to find the key but you can have a support character with you that gives you some passive abilities, one of the characters points out the enemy with the key straight away.
One piece of advice, just put up with the first dungeon, it is long, boring and may seem pointless. It will take a few hours but believe me, the moment you are out of there, you will experience the game for what it is.
There you have it. I thought I would be the only one defending DC2, but others feel the same way. As for weapon breaking, I think its very unique. What other game has you paying attention to the little things that can make a big difference? There are many enemies (monsters) and I didn't find them all that bland as one person put it (if I remember correctly). Also, someone above said to bear with the first level of the game. I AGREE. I'll tell you why I don't have a problem with this though:
It ties perfectly with the (amazing) storyline. I believe that the first level was supposed to be slow because it introduces a Strong storyline. At first, your confused because Max (protagonist) is writing to his mother. Its not until a little later you understand that *SPOILER* his mother is missing, and then later *SPOILER* you find out shes from the future. As the cool kids would say, "trippy". And then after that, the storyline just intensifies. I for one LOVED the town building. First, it was a little hard, and I was confused with the whole system. But after getting a guide for the first level (Sindain) I was able to understand what to do from there. The present affected the future (from Max's point of view) and that really tells you how unique the game is in terms of story.
Its often called the Zelda Killer, and I really wish there was a part 3 and 4. Maybe some day, but the bottom line is this:
For $7.00, you cant go wrong for a game thats worth so much more.
Lastly, although the comment above me says that the graphics are ok, I feel that they are much more. Yes, its a 2002 or 2003 game, but its artistically soulful. I'm a guy who plays Halo, GTA, NFL, NHL, Wrestling, Ratchet and Clank and so on. If I can be moved by an RPG, Asian Magnet, videogame like Dark Cloud 2, you simply cant deny that this game is something else.
...Thats my opinion, and although I may sound too serious, and/or too emotional over a videogame, Iwrote like thatbecause you wanted me to convince you, and I hope I did.
