When do you rate games/write reviews? After months go by and you maybe run into the same game again do you ever ask yourself what you were thinking when you see the rating you gave the game?

Im guilty of making some snap reviews after only playing a few hours in, other times I wait so long i done forgot about most of the finer points of the game lol. Also after I finish with new games and I go back to ones from my personal collection or maybe rerent something I had to stop playing I find that some of the things that bugged me no longer seem to matter or matter less.Othertimes after I have played certain games other games just seem to be more fun.Hell sometimes I hate a game the first time I play it and when i try it again later I end up enjoying it alot(like killzone).

I dont wannt get specific but I will.... I MIGHT eventually be willing to give DMC and Godhand another try but i think i gave them a fair shot the first time around and i dont see how it can be very diffierent. I dont wanna make this about first impressions though. I just wanted to find out if other peoples opinions about games change with time and or experience from playing other games.

Not quite the same thing, but I have plenty of games where my first reaction after a couple of hours was "wow this game is terrible". But then after a couple of day I really enjoy it and think its the best game ever lol.

I've changed my mind some over the years like; I owned Hitman 2 for a long time thought it was okay I was thinking of selling but played it more first and got really into it. I disliked FPS games like Doom and Turok (N64) until I played Goldeneye 007 (n64). I disliked fighting games until I got Street Fighter Alpha 3.

Yeah my opinion does change where a very interesting game quickly trails off. Black was a joy to start but the novelty of blowing things up wore off in no time. I have had one instance of hating a game and then loving it with Dark Cloud 2. I got bored in the first dungeon and left the game for 9 months. I decided to give it another shot so restarted and pushed through the dungeon and got rewarded with arguably one of the most enjoyable RPGs for the PS2.

What does time got to do with it? A game is fun or it is not, waiting for other games to come out so you have something to compare it to just doesn't make sense.

My opinion tends to change over time. The earliest I write a review is a week after release.

since i believe that a game has to be extensively played to get a full perspective of its weak and finer points I never change my mind, because when i write a review i'm certain of weather i like it or loathe it.

Not really, i believe games should be reviewed by the standarts of the time that it was released.

Afcours as time passes you mature and learn what really makes a good game and to diverentiate between presentation and gameplay.

I do refuse to review a game within 3 months of completion as that first impression of an nice ending cutscene can very easilly cloud your judgement of the entire game.

hmmm... sometimes in some cases, i try not to make snap reviews, and i always play the game wuite thouroughly before submitting reviews, but as for replaying some games, yeah sometimes its worse or better the second time.

lol hey graf and riceballx. anyways, my opinion doesn't change over time lol. I still feel the same way about Silent Hill (for example) that I did when it first came out in 1999 (wow...8 years :P)

Nope. My first opinion is also the last. If I hate a game, I hate it forever. If I like it, that's forever. Nothing can change my opinions.

Then you are not a fair reviewer.

As you mature you learn to apreciate diverent types of games and at the same time will learn to dislike others.

Not altering your views of older games to reflect this change will only show off as being a biased person.

Sometimes, but rarely. This probably happens when you are playing a game and another game of the same type comes out with better features. 8)

Hmmmm.Well thanx for helping me out hehe. Although a suprising number of you said no I have reached my own decision. I believe that the more games you can draw comparison from the better the review oropinion will be, and therefore each new game that you play could possably influence or be influenced by older games. Even if you make a game specifically for people who like the color blue and like to play harmonica's it will still have elements that are present in other games like graphics or sounds or gameplay mechanics. No game is in its only little vacuum of space.

Interesting topic. I always think of this when I come across reviews. Firstly, I think your opinion of a game can change over time, but really, in most cases, it shouldn't.I understand something like "the replayability value has gone down" but I absolutely will NOT give CREDIT to people who say, "The graphics of GTA III suck in comparison to GTA IV" ...And ok, that makes sense, but it REALLY ticks me off when that person gives the score for the grpahics department something ridiculous.

As for "on the snap" reviews, I think if a person approaches it rationally, and not in the hype of the game, their review will be good.

I mean, I can give a thumbs up to a review that gives a low score to a game I like, as long as they write one damn good review.

So yeah, people shouldnt change their opinion of a game under irrational excuses, but rather, they should change their opinion if they provide reasonable reasons.

As for me, I decide to wait two or three weeks before I rate the game, and I try not tosubconsciously compare it to other games.

I only change my opinion on games that I've didn't play when i play them but for a game I've already finished is hard to change my mind
