Did Sony ever say anything about the lifespan of the PS2?  I am thinking about getting one.

Oh yes, they only last 10 months till they die. . . . As far as I'm concerned no company has stated how long will a console they manufactured last. The answer is only time will tell. You could physically destroy it, it could be destroyed by accident, or it could be broken from old age. Who knows.

I guess what I meant was, how much longer do you think devs will still be making games for the PS2?

Well they're guarenteed 90 days, plus longer if you paid for a warranty at your local game store.  That's not answering your question.

To tell you the truth, it really depends.  It depends more on how many hours you play it, rather than just a length of time. I'd say if you're an average gamer, 6 years give or take some. Some would say a lifetime, but nothing lasts forever.(or do they?)

I havent seen anything on the release plan past mid April on here so I dont know if it might last much longer. We also havent seen any news about games since .hack//GU part 2 as well. I dont know what other people think but I think the PS2 is almost done.

If you don't abuse it, it will last a long time.  Don't move your console while it is playing. Don't drop it.  Mine is 6 years old and no problems.   I probably put in 10,000 hours on it.

Sony claims that they've only stopped manufacturing new PSOnes about a few months before the manufacture of the PS3. Going by that, it's likely the PStwo's will stop being manufactured (according to them) by 2010. Realistically though, it'd likely be physically impossible to find a (new or used) PS2 by '08. Though it's possible there may still be new games for the PS2 still being made.

I never knew illiteracy was so rampant on gamespot.  Oh wait, yes I did.  Anyway, to answer your real question about how much longer games will be made you can be sure that there will be some games out through this holiday season but then that will be about it.  Usually the last few titles released on a dying system or the big sellers like Madden.  You sure have enough of a back library too keep you busy with a ps2 for a long time though.

Manhunt 2, Tomb Raider: Anniversity, Smackdown vs. Raw 2008, alot of games are still coming out for the ps2...I will say it has about another 3 years until it's done dishing out games...

10 years. Sony said they'll support all their systems for 10 years. Just last year Sony finally stopped manufacturing PSones. So you got until 2010.

I think the PS2 has about another three years left making the life span 10 years for the console.
