ok ok all you guys criticize Final Fantasy IX (9) but you never say WHY you dont like it. In fact, i bet you never even played through it more than 15 minutes if at all! So explain...

IMHO, all final fantasies has it's ups and downs...

I can't possibly compare FF with other FF titles, i'd say FFIX is a nice game to play.. it does has it's flaws, though... but i'd say it has more finer point to overshadow the flaws..

It has this funny, cute thing, rather than a more serious FFVIII and FFVII.. SquareSoft (now SquareEnix) tried to re-live back a more funny, positive thinking protagonist, much like locke from FFVI, after making a more enigmatic Cloud and an anti-social Squall.

Do you know why everyone says they hate FF 9? Because there first game in the series was most likely FF7, and next was probally FF8. So they thing Final Fanatsy is about SOLDIER and seeD, high tech **** with uber advanced tehnology. Final Fantasy 9, in its purest form, was a grand tribute to Final Fantasy 1 through 5. If youve played these games, you would very well understand. 9 was Square's gift to its oldest and most loyal fans, letting them know that they hadn't forgotten their roots. 9 was a good game. My favorite, is 10, and second is 8. But 9 is still a good game. RainWest

YES RainWest! That's soo true.... Most ppl didn't play or even forget about FF1 till FF6... in FF9 they even have the reference to much older FF series (i.e Malirith etc)

And about the "old-school" FFs, I played VI and liked it a lot (it wasn't THE best, but it was excellent), so this doesn't mean that you only hate IXif your first FF was VII and you never played the six before it

I don't know how you guys can't like FFIX. It's one of the best FF games ever. It has decent, well-translated dialogue, vivid colors, relatively simple yet effective gameplay, memorable characters and a great imaginative world. Instead of being another futuristic Final Fantasy game that relies on teen angst to keep you interested, you get a story-driven game that involves all of the characters (except Amarant. we know nothing of him, but he can go in hell), so it keeps you engrossed. Also, nostalgia.

Final Fantasy VII and VIII have nothing on IX. Especially VIII.

I think why many didn't like IX was because it was too similar to the earlier greats that appeared on the SNES. It didn't have OMG cities and big robots! FTW! lol ..or, for rabid fanboys, a cross dressing, spikey haired hero who chased after men, ahem.

But seriously, I enjoyed FFIX out of all installments in the series.. mainly because of the old school feel that was a kin to FFVI and IV. I, for one, also appreciated the art style it used. It didn't swap back and forth between adult looking characters to Popeye-midgets.. plus it had a great artistic flair and design to it.

Then there's the epic rags to riches story, cliche, but awesome.. paired with memorable characters, it was quite amazing, I thought.

Gameplay was classic, pulled right from the great FFVI and there was so much classic things cameo'd within IX that it made it all the more nostalgic, somehow.. while being completely fresh.

I don't know, I guess I just enjoy titles like FFVI, IX and XII more than VII, VIII and X.. which were great, but mediocre compared to the former. Just my opinion, though.

I loved how IX mixed the new with the retro, though.

FFIX is my favourite game of all time. FFVIII is the worst (real) FF ever made.

FFVII is overrated

Oh, and the soundtrack was amazing. Its WAY better than VIII's boring and pointless tracks. Ah, and your totally right about the nostalgia.

It's just that this game has MUCH more spirit and heart than VIII could ever have (VII WAS actually really good) but VIII was a load of crap compared to IX.
