I have played every single FF out there, and with out a doubt XII is by far the best "game".

If ur playing for story or something else beside core gameplay then X. Personally i would play VII or IX before X storywise...

Both are really great, i've yet to complete either one, but they both have their ups for sure... new combat skill in XII and X had X-2 to follow the story up somewhat... they both have voice acting... and the biggest difference that might make your decision, rather than the price itself..

turn based battles in X ~ realtime standstill battles in X-2

walkaround battles in XII as well as neutral enemies

If you want to get spoon fed like a child. Go with X. That pathetic game is LINEAR as hell with little to almost no side quests till the end of the miserable. Not to mention it has a story that is so cheesy, so crappy, that a normal grown man would gag at what a piece of crap it is. Hell, I'm gay and I think that sorry excuse of a story stinks. XII's story is no winner either, but a political plot sure is better than emo garbage for 12 year olds. 2deluxe

XII IS A FUN GAME: SMOOTH GAMEPLAY, BUT A HORRIBLE, CONFUSING STORYLINE. I PLAYED ABOUT 50 HOURS OF IT AND COULDN'T TELL YOU A THING ABOUT WHAT'S GOING ON.

X, COUPLED WITH VII, ARE THE TWO BEST GAMES OF THE SERIES. X WAS REVOLUTIONARY BECAUSE IT WAS ONE OF THE FIRST RPGS TO HAVE VOICEOVER ACTING AND SMOOTH CINEMATIC SEQUENCES.

DEFINITELY GO WITH X. i AM CURRENTLY REPLAYING VII, VIII, IX, AND X FOR NOSTALGIA PURPOSES.

Actually im 21, and i remember when FF7 came out,I also remember back in july of 1990 when my brother got FF for his birthday and the countless hours i plugged into it as well as all other FF games.

if ur deciding which game to play by story, then u are playing ff for the wrong reasons. FF stories are made for 13 year old japanese boys...they all suck.

since you have no specifics on wheter you are a ff adept or not, i can only assume you re not. this then leads you to a crossroads where you need to decide if you are a "retro" or "neo" gamer. the former means you like games being presented to you, gameplay that is easily understood and can be challenging at times but not all the time, and has clear direction. the latter simply refers to the opposite. you like opening up games based on your choices, innovative gameplay that is a challenge to learn and presents challenges even after mastering it, and a more "open world" approach to gaming. in the rpg genre, a good way to compare these two methods is east and west rpgs', like ff1 and oblivion. now like politic, most people are not exact conservative and exact liberal, they are in between but have a bias. you need to figure out which you like more is all. if you hate one though, then you are the other's typical player

now, to x or xii

x is a "retro" game. almost en totale. it is linear and has a set course for learning all of its secrets. VERY little side quests, and they are at the end of the game. also, the gameplay is like any other JRPG, as it is turn-based.

xii is a "neo" game. nigh en masse. it is oblivion-esque in it's open world approach and offers a complex story and gameplay.

both are great games. i love rpgs, fall into the moderate category almost exactly as i love the best and even the mediocre from both sides. these games are almost opposite each other. take a look at how people in this thread say "hands down" or "way better" to show a definite bias towards one or the other, and even have gotten defensive about it. you need to just get the gme that follows your play style.

xii made me absolutely sick!!!!!!!!!! the story is so awkward. yes, the gameplay is nice, but there's no connection with the characters whatsoever.

Have u ever played Vagrant Story? If so, and u liked it then u would love FF XII, but if u r looking for the same experience u have come to love from the FF franchise then go with X. If u have the urge to own both i would suggest that as well because they r both great games in their own rights.

I honestly dont even have to say anything back...a retarded baby cheetah could figure out who to trust here. If u play for "epic storyline" and "leveling ability" i want to call u dumb, but in all honestyyour rpg3221 the only person is the world who plays a FF game for "leveling ability" whatever the hell that is anyways...

For the rest of us who enjoy the actual qualities of a game...XII

get both. XII has a great story but X has a better story. XII has a better battle system to help you pay more attention but X has the classic feel to it. XII is much more difficult though. I guess if you're looking for a challenge with not as much story you should go for XII. If you're looking for a classic FF feel to it then go for X...

I really think that we all should shell out $70 for VII, that's the greatest FF of all time.
